And properly *finally* finally this time, for Day 120 of #100DaysOfPlants (I should've called it #120DaysOfNewSodom really, but I hadn't discovered/IDed the extra 20 when I started) it's yellow garlic, popping up amid the geraniums and feverfew of Laburnumley.
Day 119 of #100DaysOfPlants, and it really is the penultimate day, we're down to the last two, this one being wych elm, we think, possibly. Sadly, like the horse chestnut & the sycamore with it in the lane, it really shouldn't stay, cause it'll grow huge and fuck the foundations.
Day 118 of #100DaysOfPlants and it's woodbine honeysuckle, Lonicera periclymenum, growing up behind the Smolsneuk stumpery and through the smol honeysuckle, sporting a good few of its extravagant flowers this year as opposed to last year's single bloom.
Day 116 of #100DaysOfPlants and it's wood sorrel up next, this wee patch one of the smols giving Smolsneuk its name. Dainty wee thing, it's all the more adorable when you see its flowers nodding one by one under the weight of a bumble bee moving between them.
Day 115 of #100DaysOfPlants and it's winter savoury. This poor kid is still recovering from being tromped on by workies, but I'm just leaving him to heal. Not as fast a grower as rosemary, I think, so I wanna let him bush out a good bit to support my usage, I reckon.
Day 114 of #100DaysOfPlants and w is for willowherb and willowherb and willowherb and willowherb, which is basically what whole swathes of the garden's borders seemed to consist of back in 2018 until I started clearing the weeds to find the treasures quickly getting swallowed up.
Day 113 of #100DaysOfPlants and keeping with the wilds, it's wild rose. And I realise I didn't get any pics of the bigger yin that's scrambling up through the hebe in Undercherry and that did actually produce some teeny wee flowers in line with its teeny wee leaves.
Day 112 of #100DaysOfPlants and it's wild garlic, this wee batch planted by @ThatGraceKing from the neighbouring close in Laburnumley. Courtesy of @SDennett, there's some more over in Undercherry now too, so wur woodland aesthetic game is getting stronger & stronger.
Day 109 of #100DaysOfPlants and W is for Welsh poppy, a self-seeding shade-happy mainstay of #Rakesden. I'm not sure they weren't previously limited to Smolsneuk, but I'm good with them spreading. Albeit a bit disappointed to have seen no germination on seed sown for orange ones.
Day 107 of #100DaysOfPlants and v is for variegated periwinkle, I believe. Sadly this wee thing behind the big St. John's Wort disappeared last year and has not been seen since. Which maybe undermines the ID given periwinkle is frickin indestructible, but it *was* teeny.
Day 106 of #100DaysOfPlants and u is for um, uhther unknown? Whatever it is in Laburnumley, it looks fancy, and we've got a few more of these leaves than this now, but no sign of flowering yet. I should get some more pics, cause this one is fuckin awful.
Day 105 of #100DaysOfPlants and U is for unknown in Undercherry. I really like the way this wee thing grows, halfway between shrub and rambling ground cover, and its bright green makes a great contrast with the bugle, after the herb robert is gone over and cleared.
Day 104 of #100DaysOfPlants & t is for tulip. As a child of the 1970s, I always associated these with big formal displays in plastic colours & was never really a fan, but with the naturalistic scatter of them through #Rakesden & the range of characters you can get, I am convert.
Day 103 of #100DaysOfPlants and we have sycamore, planted by one of the squirls (along with approximately a gazillion others) and howked out of the bed but into a pot just to see if I could find it a home--which I did: one of the *good* workies doing the flat upstairs got it.
Day 102 of #100DaysOfPlants, because that's how we roll here in #Rakesden, and we have sunflowers, which are really rather less sunny in the figurative sense when they're the sad single solitary survivor of a snail-wrought massacre. Sadflower, more like, poor thing.
And finally it is Day 100 of #100DaysOfPlants, and with stonecrop it seems we've run out of days rather than plants. I shoulda done 120 Days as in Sodom, shouldn't I? Well, I only had pics of ~100 when I started, and right now there'd be a few U for unknowns.
Day 99 of #100DaysOfPlants & we have sticky willy AKA cleavers, which exist to be peeled from the bushes it's swamping in yer 1970s housing scheme during the hottest summer on record & swung like a candyfloss whip at yer mate's back to stick there, the wee balls pure covering it.
Day 98 of #100DaysOfPlants and S is for St. John's Wort, which we're rapidly getting enough of now via self-seeding that I'm probably gonna have to dig up one or two of the youngsters from Laburnumley next year, if not before. And the big'un needs hacked back hard already.
Day 97 of #100DaysOfPlants and next up, as we rapidly run out of days to cover the plants still left, is spiraea. The profusion of flowers in this area shows what it should have been like all over, I think, if I'd pruned it as hard as you're meant to. Next year I'll be bolder.
Day 96 of #100DaysOfPlants and we have the sow thistle, gigantic motherfucker whose flowers don't even last that long before turning into fluff, but which are easy to howk out once they've fully gone over and look so dramatic I'm happy to have at least one somewhere around.
