News: #Tigray Medical Association condemns detention of #Adigrat hospital chief, demands immediate release
Citing information from its members in Adigrat, TMA said that “no lawful justification or due process has been communicated to the Association, his colleagues, or his family” regarding his detention.
Describing it as “a serious violation of the rights of medical professionals to move and associate freely and to engage in legitimate scientific and educational activity without harassment,” TMA further warned that the detention undermines “two institutions critical to Tigray's recovery.”

Very interesting to read Abiy trying to correct the historical record and distance himself from the crimes committed across Tigray by his Eritrean partners, suggesting he tried to reign them in, but couldn't. Hard to buy. https://t.co/bkjAx9VuW7

4.5 Magnitude earthquake hit #Mekelle, #Adigrat, #Aksum and parts of #Afar
Mekelle - An earthquake was felt across several towns in #Tigray and neighboring parts of the Afar region on Sunday at around 11:05 p.m., residents reported.
According our reporter on the ground, residents in Mekelle felt tremors in the city at approximately 5:05 p.m. Similar reports were received from other towns across Tigray, including Adigrat, Aksum, #Shire, #Maychew, #Wukro, #Adi_Gudem, #Edagahamus, and #Adwa.
Volcano Discovery reported that the earthquake measured 4.5 on the Richter scale. The website said the quake originated 60km northeast of Mekelle.
The tremors were felt strongly in several areas of both Tigray and Afar.
This is not the first time northern Ethiopia has experienced significant seismic activity in recent months. In October last year, a series of strong earthquakes struck parts of Tigray and the Afar region, leaving more than 43,000 people in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).
ECHO reported that a 5.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the two regions on 11 October claimed the life of a 12-year-old child in Berhale district of Afar, while nine others were injured. In Afar, more than 1,400 houses were destroyed, along with 12 schools, 12 health centers, and 150 water points, leaving thousands without shelter and access to basic services.
Similarly, the Tigray Disaster Risk Management Bureau said the tremors caused extensive damage around Mekelle, completely destroying 40 houses and leaving more than 225 people displaced or in distress.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage at the time of publication of the latest earthquake.

Adigrat University (@AdU_AdigratUniv) Launches #International #Workshop in Collaboration with #SOAS #University of #London and #Mekelle #University.
#Adigrat #University (@AdU_AdigratUniv ) has launched an international workshop in collaboration with SOAS University of London and Mekelle University under the theme “Conflict, Recovery, and Peace-Building Governance in Tigray: Rethinking Justice and Reconstruction.”
The workshop was officially opened by #Dr. #Gebremicheal #Weldegbriel, #President of Adigrat University (AdU). In his opening remarks, the President emphasized that the occasion should serve as a moment of consolidation and renewal of the partnerships and collaborations established between the institutions.
#Professor #Laura #Hammond, #Deputy #Vice-#Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences at SOAS University of London, noted in her opening address that the implementation of the project has been successful. She further highlighted that the partnership agreement will be strengthened and consolidated in the future.
Participants in the workshop include representatives from #Mekelle #University, #Aksum #University, #SOAS #University of #London, and #CST #Ethiopia.
The workshop will continue through tomorrow and aims to conclude the one-year project while also setting directions for future collaboration and initiatives.

At this critical moment, the only existing viable path forward for #Tigray is the success of the #Dialogue Congress led by His Grace Abune Tesfaselassie Medhin, Bishop of the Catholic Church of #Adigrat, despite legitimate grievances surrounding the manner in which the process was initiated. His Grace is widely regarded as a principled and uncompromising moral leader, capable of leveraging his diplomatic standing and credibility to move the process forward.
That said, the committee cannot succeed without broad and active support, particularly in achieving the following:
1.Enabling free, inclusive, and safe dialogue among Tigray’s political and military actors in Mekelle, Addis Ababa, and areas referred to as ሓራ መሬት
2.Ensuring the complete withdrawal of the military from political life.
3.Facilitating the establishment of an inclusive transitional government that is not dominated by a single political party, incorporates all legitimate political forces, and excludes non-political bodies such as the GSTS from political governance.
4.Guaranteeing the independence of institutions such as #EFFORT and state media, ensuring they operate free from political capture or manipulation.
5.Urgently creating the conditions—through direct engagement with AddisAbaba— that allow for the return of displaced populations and the restoration of constitutional territories.
Importantly, the committee must not remain silent in the face of obstruction, interference, and deliberate delays reportedly originating from the TPLF secretariat, which have thus far undermined the committee’s work. Transparency is essential; the public has the right to be informed about these challenges.
In parallel, the six political parties legally recognized by the Ethiopian National Election Board—namely:
•Tigray Independence Party
•Salsay Weyane Tigray
•National Congress of Great Tigray (Baytona)
•Arena Tigray for Democracy and Sovereignty
•Woledo
•Tinsae 70 Enderta Party
which have held joint leadership-level consultations today on issues related to the dialogue, should actively and constructively support the committee in achieving its stated objectives.
Finally, representatives of the international community present in the region should also lend clear, principled, and sustained support to this dialogue process, recognizing that its success is indispensable to lasting peace, accountability, and inclusive governance in Tigray.
