The violation did not end with the desecration of the grave itself; it reportedly continued with the humiliation and abuse of the deceased’s body after it was removed. What was perhaps even more shocking than the act itself was the reaction surrounding it: the cheering, the chants, and the celebration of the desecration of a dead human being as though it were an achievement or a victory. Regardless of a person’s identity, beliefs, affiliations, or the accusations made against them, the dead are entitled to dignity. Respect for the deceased is among the most fundamental principles recognized across civilizations, religions, legal traditions, and international human rights standards.
