Meet Nahid from Addu Feydhoo. The first time I heard about him was through a friend. He told me that White Terns were so comfortable around Nahid that they would actually land on his hands and eat from them. As an Adduan and an amateur birder myself, I honestly didn't believe it. So I went to see it for myself. It was true. A lifelong bird lover, Nahid has made it his personal mission to rescue injured birds. Especially White Terns. Whenever Adduans find an injured or fallen bird, those who know him bring it to Nahid. He treats them using his own traditional Dhivehi remedies (Dhivehi beys), nurses them back to health, and then lets them go. He never clips their wings. He never keeps them in cages. He rented a plot of land by the beach under the "pretext" of running a café. In reality, it has become a sanctuary for rescued birds. I watched Dhondheeni fly down, land on his hands, and feed directly from them. I sent a video of Nahid hand-feeding White Terns to a Chinese birdwatching club I'm a member of. Their immediate response was, "That's AI." They told me it was impossible. White Terns are expert aerial hunters, not birds that can be tamed. So I video-called them live from Addu. They watched the birds fly to him in real time. That was the moment they decided they wanted to visit Addu to see it for themselves. The birds Nahid rescues are always free to leave once they recover. Some fly away forever. Others choose to stay. Even more remarkable, some return to him when it's time to lay their eggs. As per @animfromAddu they consider him family now. During our visit, the Chinese birders didn't just observe White Terns, they experienced something none of them had ever imagined possible. They held White Terns in their hands and even fed them by hand. What fascinated them even more was that the birds would rarely approach anyone unless Nahid was nearby. His bond with these birds is extraordinary. Watching him interact with them almost makes you feel as though he speaks their language. They were so inspired by his selfless work that one birder expressed interest in producing a documentary about him, while others commissioned paintings celebrating both Nahid and the Addu Dhondheeni. Dear Gov of Maldives, Addu City Council, Feydhoo Council, and the people of Addu, This man is among Addu's greatest hidden treasures. His work deserves recognition, protection, and support, not only because he rescues birds, but because he has created something truly unique that cannot be manufactured or bought. Birdwatchers travel across the world in search of rare and unforgettable experiences. Seeing White Terns in the wild is already special. Witnessing the extraordinary bond between Nahid and these birds, watching them voluntarily land on his hands and feed from them, is something many experienced birders have never seen anywhere else in the world. I have already seen how this alone captivated bird enthusiasts from China and sparked their interest in visiting Addu. Imagine what it could do if properly documented and promoted internationally. Please do everything within your power to support Nahid and his mission. Help preserve the sanctuary he has built, assist his conservation work, and allow him to continue doing what he has devoted his life to. People like Nahid are rare. Supporting him is not simply supporting one individual; it is investing in Addu's natural heritage, strengthening Addu’s place as a birdwatching destination, and creating a form of eco-tourism that is authentic, sustainable, and found nowhere else.

Some political appointees from Addu. #1 Jeneeh Rasheed @nationalist_ecb graduated from Oxford Uni in 2018 with a Master in Economics. He’s Addu Hithadhu Port Chief Operating Officer (COO). When he speaks in English, it’s hard to understand him cause of his strong British accent.
