🌟Buzz for Oscar | AWFF Spotlight: Focus on Taiwan Last week, three Oscar submissions from Taiwan — Left-Handed Girl, Side A: A Summer Day, and From Island to Island — were screened under the Focus on Taiwan at the Asian World Film Festival (#AWFF), co-presented with AWFF and the Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles. After each screening, the filmmakers joined the Q&A and reception, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and connecting with North American audiences and industry professionals. 🛵𝑳𝒆𝒇𝒕-𝑯𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍 > Taiwan’s official submission for Best International Feature Film< Inspired by director Tsou’s own childhood — growing up left-handed and being told it was “wrong” — the idea for Left-Handed Girl stayed with her for years. Years ago, she shared this idea with Sean Baker, they immediately began imagining how it could become a film. When Sean visited Taiwan for the first time, he instantly fell in love with Taiwan's vibrant night markets and wanted to see them through a child’s eyes. After nearly two decades of development, the project finally came together. Sean laughed that if the film had been made much earlier, the two young talents we see today might never have crossed paths with the project. Actors Shih-Yuan Ma and Nina Ye also joined the Q&A. Ma recalled thinking the director’s first Instagram DM was a scam, while Nina shared that her favorite scene was “stealing” — something she’d never dare try in real life. DEAD SOULS (2025), curioso western fronterizo donde Alex Cox adapta la novela de Nikolai Gogol del mismo nombre, asumiendo el protagonismo absoluto (y está estupendo), con algunos de sus toques habituales (ese sueño mezcla de animación y viaje al futuro), humor incluido... #AWFF
