To the viewers who found this out via other sources, this is actually an unofficial mockup of an ident package I dubbed as “One World”! Apologies for any inconvenience! #BBCRebrand #BBCIdents #BBCOne

The #bbcrebrand used three different sized blocks to represent global 'sport' and DIDN'T go for an Olympic-style podium

The 1997 BBC blocks saved millions over 23 years, simply by being black and white instead of colour. Letterhead printing alone cost a fraction of the 4 colour version #bbcrebrand

Lest we forget that BBC Studios, the commercial arm, will have had to chip in for the cost of the #bbcrebrand - (or less likely, will be paying a royalty) so the licence fee drain will have been minimal.

The #BBCrebrand is primarily to SAVE money - the new font "Reith" is owned by the corporation so they won't have to pay royalties for Gill Sans anymore. Plus it's mostly been done in-house without expensive branding agencies.

Pure nostalgia. This logo wouldn't translate well across multiple platforms today, but I still have a soft-spot for it. Anyone who was a young child in the early 90s couldn't have failed to be slightly unnerved by this stunningly haunting arrangement. #BBCrebrand
