A2 Multiple ways to show one’s learning is paramount. I agree that a student should never feel hopeless gradewise. #bhmschat. However, I am of the opinion that students need to work hard to better themselves. Sometimes a bad grade is ok if, w/coaching, it improves work ethic.

That I disagree with. There is only so much you do. If the kid doesn’t care, short of giving them the answers, you can’t make them pass a test. #bhmschat
And...to add to that @LauraB_SLP a bad grade shouldn't be finite. We should always have the opportunity to show learning and improve to showcase our learning. With this mindset there should never be bad test grade #bhmschat

A1 Ss always needs a path to success. If a S failed the first 2 exams what’s the point of studying for the 3rd exam if it’s mathematically impossible to earn a passing mp grade. Allow students to recover & you allow them to learn! #bhmschat

A3 Keep doing what we’re doing. I have conversations with Ts, Ss, and parents every day. It’s something we are embracing more and more and it shows in our discipline data. We have a code that is rooted in restorative practices and we’re hoping to update it each year #bhmschat

A2 Bc using punitive measures isn’t always effective. Research shows that punitive measures is used disproportionately against subgroups, can lead to a decrease in academic performance, and even increase retention rates...we need to start using research based practices #bhmschat
#bhmschat A2 It’s easy to sit quietly for an hour after school but owning up to mistakes and looking someone in the eye to talk and apologize is hard. It’s also a necessary life skill
