Islamists threatened Michaela School and its teachers with destruction, and the story is emblematic. Michaela is the only free, non-selective school in Britain with academic results to rival Eton’s. No sports hall, no grass, no sports field, no car park - no space for a prayer room. So Muslim pupils pushed mobile prayer mats and prayers into the playground, pressurising others to join, intimidating and shaming pupils who did not, causing one girl to leave the choir because “music is haram”, coercing another girl into a hijab. Birbalsingh recognised a culture shift towards religious segregation, and moved to end it. Teachers confiscated prayer mats, and a Muslim backlash ensued; there was an online petition against one teacher, violence and death threats, racist and misogynistic abuse, and a bomb threat, such that Birbalsingh banned all group prayer. Outrageous and real threats - but not surprising. The Batley Grammar RE teacher and his family are still in hiding, under police protection. Samuel Paty was beheaded outside his school in Paris. One child, TTT, refused to comply, kept pushing that prayer mat into shared space, and was suspended twice for her rudeness, defiance and for threatening to stab another pupil. That was just the warm-up. She and her mother, supported by an extended Muslim network crying Islamophobia, took Michaela to court on legal aid. They claimed Muslim pupils need special treatment because the prayer regime is so exigent, and lost. The court found that banning prayers was proportionate to a legitimate aim, and TTT could change schools if she wished to pray. The girl had told a classmate that she wanted to harm Michaela, warning, with the stab threat, not to tell anyone. Court upheld that suspension. She could at any time have chosen a different school, her younger sister too. They didn’t, because they wanted the academic results - just not the discipline and fairness that were integral to them. It didn’t cost them a penny, but was very costly to taxpayers and Michaela’s funds, time and energy. It is a story which exposes ugly truths about Islam’s destructive potential in Western institutions, and that even children will be used to disrupt the status quo and exert dominance, be taught not to abide by rules or assimilate but to claim special status, space and privilege, and shout, abuse, threaten violence, bombs and death if they don’t get what they want. And exploit the despised colonialist British taxpayer in their drive to bend the world to their wishes. They got the opposite of what they wanted: a permanent ban on prayer at Michaela, and a warning for every other school.
