Eisenhower's FIRST ever 'experience' of ground combat was in the Medjerda valley, Tunisia, Dec 1942, whilst visiting Brit 1st Army HQ. A number of US generals also had never experienced any combat until Tunisia #BestGeneral #TunisianCampaign #WednesdayWisdom @James1940 @almurray
Francis Tuker: well deserved candidate in the #BestGeneral category - not least for his very rude post-war writing about 8th and 1st Army - here's his Akarit objective, taken AT NIGHT! I could barley walk around in daylight #TunisianCampaign @James1940 @almurray @WeHaveWaysPod
"I am regarded by many people as being a tiresome person. I think this is very probably true" Montgomery quote, 1943, during the #TunisianCampaign. But still Britain's #BestGeneral IMHO - conceited, complex, charismatic. He gets my vote. @WeHaveWaysPod @James1940 @almurray
General Brian Horrocks seen here soon after getting dangerously wounded at Bizerte harbour, Tunisia, 1943. He had been attending a demo on the use of smoke to 'hide harbours' from aircraft. He was strafed by an aircraft! #BestGeneral @WeHaveWaysPod #TunisianCampaign
If "the best General in WW2" meant "the most impact" then Ronald Adam would give Alan Brooke a run for his money. Front left is Adam, front right is Brooke - India 1912 - they all look terribly posh!! #BestGeneral @almurray @James1940 @WeHaveWaysPod
