Xabi Alonso asks, and you deliver — big money spent, almost every request granted, and fair enough, Xabi’s deserved that backing and I LOVE IT.
But the positions Strasbourg actually needs strengthened — an elite penalty-box centre-back and a quality No.1 goalkeeper — keep getting ignored. You’ve spent £50m, even £100m+, to keep Xabi Alonso happy, yet you can’t find €20m for a centre-back who’d lift the floor of this Strasbourg squad? That’s on you, dear #BlueCo leaders. Let's say it the way it is.
You’re the architect of Strasbourg’s struggles right now, and it will provoke their fanbase even further and pile unnecessary pressure on the players and the head coach with the season just days away. Hugo Oliveira needs his Starting XI settled and drilled ahead of the Ligue 1 opener, not scrambled together in the final week.
I can only imagine two coaches. Two clubs. One treated like a priority, the other like an afterthought. That’s not strategy — that’s hypocrisy and favouritism, plain and simple. Strasbourg fans can see it. Hugo Oliveira can see it. Too obvious.
Strasbourg deserves the same calibre of signings and leadership you gave Xabi Alonso when you brought in Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck. Nobody is asking for €50-100m marquee signings — just 2-3 quality players in the €15-20m range, plus two experienced heads to bring composure and lift this young squad. Ben Chilwell alone isn’t enough for what was the youngest squad in a Top 5 league last season. This needs sorting urgently.
Chelsea open their 2026/27 Premier League campaign against Fulham on Monday, August 24, at Craven Cottage has been fully backed, with Palestra, Morgan, Lacroix, Welbeck, Henderson, Barco, Emegha, Quenda and soon Chavarria added to the squad. Strasbourg kick off THREE DAYS earlier, away to a strong Marseille side on August 21, with raw players who can’t make an immediate impact.
Same ownership. Same summer. One club built up, one left exposed. This needs to be fixed this week, not when Ligue 1 has already started.
What’s good for one club should be good for the other in the same MCO Network. That's how the project can succeed.
I’ve defended this project publicly and I’ll keep defending it BUT I won’t pretend Strasbourg is being treated fairly, because it isn’t. Give Hugo Oliveira what Xabi Alonso already has: REAL BACKING to make the squad stronger and better. Not favours. Not charity. Just the same standard.
Success is the only thing that matters here and success needs quality in every position, at both clubs, not just one.
