🇨🇦 Thales Canada has been awarded a contract by Lockheed Martin Canada to supply CAPTAS S2087 low‑frequency towed array sonars for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN)’s future River‑class destroyers. @ThalesCanada @LockheedMartin Sonar 2087, belonging to #Thales’ #CAPTAS sonar family, is a high‑performance towed array sonar designed to detect and track quiet submarines over long ranges in complex littoral and open‑ocean environments. River‑class destroyers, based on Type 26 frigate design, will form the backbone of the RCN, replacing the Halifax‑class frigates. Lockheed Martin Canada is serving as the Combat Systems Integrator (CSI) for the new vessels.

Deployment of the CAPTAS-4 towed sonar, which equips the #Moroccan #Navy 🇲🇦 FREMM Heavy Frigate Mohammed VI (701). Designed by #French #France @thalesgroup and Leonardo, the CAPTAS-4 consists of a UMS-4249 variable-depth towed sonar (VDS) that emits very low frequency (VLF) waves and a multi-function linear array equipped with hydrophones. Depending on the #water temperature and salinity, it can detect a #submarine up to 150 km away, which, for example, allows for the creation of a "security bubble" around a #naval force #Morocco #Maroc
