Never let them forget.
Disability can strike any person at any time through no fault of their own. Government attempted to shirk its responsibility. They failed spectacularly #CareRef
Never forget that fact ! 😡
1: During the care referendum @LeoVaradkar said
“I don’t actually think that’s the State’s responsibility. I do think that is very much a family responsibility.” His words deserve to be remembered.
Look at what people with disabilities and their families are facing now.

Truly 💔Caring for a loved one with needs never ends. Too few supports means elderly are pushed beyond limits. When they become ill themselves the worry + upset multiplies. There’s no cushion or soft place to fall. Remember #CareRef Gov + certain Opp pushing for Yes vote! 😡
As a 60 year old carer to a 41 year old physically disabled son this is the reality we are facing.
@caulmick @maryharryheff One thing is certain Dev + Countess Markievicz are turning in their graves !

@MichealLehane @rtenews The protests reflected the discontent of a nation impacted not alone by cost of living, fuel etc but by the uncaring attitude reflected in #CareRef ; finger pointing; time wasting in Leinster HSE; arrogance in ignoring electorate concerns via backbench TDs etc. Trust lost.
the #CareRef that placed the plight of people with disabilities within the family, behind closed doors with Government attempting to blame people with disabilities and families for their disability. It is a societal construct when PwD cannot access health and social supports.

@Berlinnaeus Did you call him a muppet, like you implied about all who opposed the #CareRef, who subsequently were found to be in the majority and didn't believe the government propaganda about carers / disabled
Thought not
@unadunphy Those are the unelected ; unanswerable richly rewarded movers and shapers.
The #CareRef a prime example of a major fupp-up; the #SNA shambles their latest. They will keep their roles at our expense while Ministers like Moynihan & Naughton say we misinterpret the message!
😡
“The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members,”
You are failing spectacularly @MichealMartinTD

@CarrollJennifer
The #CareRef you crafted & promoted left us under no illusion. You view #PwD + #Carers with disdain😡
I cannot imagine the distress caused by a recent letter from the HSE to individuals whose adult relative urgently requires accommodation and support to live independently. The pain involved must be profound.
This concerns a Disabled adult. An adult with full legal status and rights. Not a child. The adult is not a private family responsibility.
There is no law that makes parents indefinitely responsible for an adult family member because that family member is a Disabled person. The Constitution does not impose that duty. Statute does not impose that duty. The Assisted Decision Making Act affirms all adults’ legal capacity and recognises the right to support where required, not substitution or lifelong parental responsibility.
When a housing and support crisis is framed as something to be absorbed within the family home, it reinforces an outdated and harmful assumption. It suggests that a Disabled person’s adulthood is secondary to family responsibility rather than recognising entitlement to housing, personal assistance, advocacy and independent living supports.
This is precisely why I co founded Equality Not Care and campaigned vigorously to reject 42B in the Care referendum. The proposed wording risked further embedding the idea that the family is the default site of responsibility, rather than creating enforceable rights to the supports that make autonomy and dignity possible.
Those of us who self advocate understand how difficult and oppressive it is to assert our rights within systems that remain ableist and paternalistic.
It is not acceptable to diminish the rights of any person. It is not acceptable to treat adulthood as conditional. It is not acceptable to weaponise impairment to delay, deny or deflect State responsibility.
All adults are rights holders. Independent living is not discretionary. It is a matter of equality, dignity and legal obligation. @EmerHigginsTD @MichealMartinTD @SimonHarrisTD @BernardGloster @TomClonan @MaryLouMcDonald @HollyCairnsTD @ivanabacik @DisabilityFed @InclusionIre @LeaderClare @PaulGogarty @thejournal_ie @ILMIreland @DSS_Ireland
Well said @TomClonan
This #CareLess administration despite losing the #CareRef are continuing to punish families attempting to get services for their disabled loved ones by suggesting the disability is “within” the person and family. Outdated views that are insulting to witness
How can this be right? On her 18th birthday does our Government feel that the #Disability disappears? That #PwD magically becomes well enough to care for self? Please explain @1Hildegarde @NormaFoleyTD1 @MichealMartinTD
#NeverForget they pushed the #CareRef. and lost #FFFG
@NewstalkFM The reality is since our Daughter turned 18 respite reduced to 1/3 of what we had, transport was taken away for day service & my wife’s Meagre €209 carers payment was taken away. False ‘promises’ are increasing tho…. #carecantwait #familycarers #familycarersireland
@TomClonan speaks of the lived experiences of his family, in particular the experience of his son Eoin. We are decades behind other jurisdictions - 50 years behind Germany he tells the audience and mentions the #CareRef and advices ignored 4m AG + then Minister Paschal Donoghue

The people spoke too in the #CareRef replying with a resounding “No” to a Government proposal. They under estimated the power of #PeopleWithDisabilities & #Carers and our families
@fiannafailparty &
@FineGael have learnt nothing.
They should #ListenToThePeople !

@caulmick @horseymatilda @IrishMailSunday The #careref wasn't enough of a signal of how they got it wrong, and thought they could bluffer it out. This is a rinse repeat of care ref
“less able” . There’s a perception that we cannot contribute to society with the #CareRef seeking to chain us to the home. More than 1,200 persons with disabilities under the age of 65 are languishing in hospitals of nursing homes despite not requiring medical care.
6/10
@TomClonan Can't contemplate voting for humpries given she was in social protection and responsible for means testing....... and as president would have rubberstamped the #careref in to existence with no querying or probing
@fiona_boylan @thejournal_ie She never had my number 1
But she won't even get no 4 in a 3 horse race now

Check out your #Aras25 candidate -Do not vote for candidates that campaigned for a ‘Yes’ Vote on #Carer Referendum or a Minister that drafted the reprehensible Green Paper on ‘#Disability’ Reform - a Cut & Paste of discredited Tory Policy- Source: BBC News https://t.co/QbYKlYZeHn
@linny55 @rtenews @rte @FineGael When we understand persons with disabilities are way down the priority list for this Government we might begin to force change.The #CareRef 2024 rolled out by FFFG + Greens endorsed by Opposition parties SF, Labour, Soc Dems spoke volumes ! Can’t forget!
Still no support 4carers
