No one should be forced to live in squalid converted hotels. But closing hotels must mean housing people in real homes, in communities - NOT ex-military camps.
Real homes are safer, more dignified - and 5x cheaper per-night than camps.

Shipping people to military sites:
❌ Increases costs
❌ Isolates people away from legal aid and medial care
❌ Traumatises survivors of torture, war and imprisonment

For £23 a night, people can live in a community home where they can start rebuilding their lives. Or for £123 a night, they can share barrack rooms with strangers & endure traumatic reminders of war.
It shouldn't be a difficult choice.

If you care about human suffering, military asylum camps are a terrible idea.
If you care about taxpayers' money, military asylum camps are a terrible idea.
So why is the Government about to open more military asylum camps?

We need your help!
Write to your MP and tell them a different world is possible, where people live in communities, not in camps.
Tell them to put compassion first in the asylum system.

Instead of reenacting failed, dangerous policies, Government must to work to ensure that everyone in our communities has somewhere safe and dignified to live. #CommunitiesNotCamps

The last Government's failed experiment in asylum camps cost the taxpayer millions, all while traumatising and isolating torture survivors.
Now, Keir Starmer wants to return to this cruel and wasteful plan.
We can't go back.

The two year anniversary of Wethersfield Asylum Camp. The Labour Party pledged to close it, but current occupancy is higher than it ever, with no signs of the promised closure.

How do you recover in this environment? How do you learn about the U.K., learn language, and start to think about rebuilding your life?
Start treating people like the humans they are would be Step 1 in any decent system. #CommunitiesNotCamps #WethersfieldMustClose
📍 Wethersfield, UK ❌ Close the camps
The High Court has ruled that the government unlawfully housed survivors of trafficking, torture, and violence at RAF Wethersfield.

The damage to people’s ability to learn about the U.K., prepare for a life here.
There are no legitimate reasons for warehousing people. Close Wethersfield, invest the money in our communities & let people be part of them. #CommunitiesNotCamps
🚨Napier Barracks to close. Now just Wethersfield - close all the asylum camps! #CommunitiesNotCamps https://t.co/QdzxwYfkEM
❗Breaking news ❗
Holding three survivors of trafficking, torture and violence at RAF Wethersfield was unlawful and breached the equality act, court finds.
It couldn't be clearer: Wethersfield must close, now.

"Unacceptable levels of public money wasted" - why? Because the last Government was so determined to prove its commitment to cruelty that it paid over the odds for a totally unsuitable site.
We can improve lives and save money by letting people live in #CommunitiesNotCamps
We've published our report investigating the @ukhomeoffice acquisition of former HMP Northeye.
We're deeply concerned that the plans to acquire large sites for asylum accommodation went drastically wrong.

"It was a failed experiment by the Government. We were treated as less than human." 👇
As we celebrate the very end of the Bibby Stockholm, 2025 must be the year the harmful camps remaining at Wethersfield and Napier close.

No one should have to spend Christmas in a barrack.
But this year, too many people are still trapped in inhumane conditions at cruel asylum camps like Wethersfield and Napier. They're dangerous, they're isolating, and they must close.
#CommunitiesNotCamps
Close the camps! Shut Wethersfield & Napier barracks and stop warehousing people. People should live in #CommunitiesNotCamps give people working rights & stop trapping them in desperately harmful asylum warehouses.
🚨 NEW: Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has served closure notices to 7 asylum hotels which will shut down in January

I argue that @LabourTogether have got it wrong on migration in @LabourList today and that @instituteforgov have better answers 👇
