This government has been an abject failure when it comes to repealing the #PTA. Extending emergency laws well beyond Cyclone #Ditwa is a slow, steady reminder that they are drifting down the same path as their predecessors.
No matter what good they may do, it is overshadowed by the instinct to retain extraordinary powers over ordinary citizens.

1/ Met French Ambassador to #Lka, #Rémi_Lambert @FranceinColombo at my residence with a #TPA delegation.
2/ We apprised the Ambassador, with facts: #IOT #Malaiyaha SriLankans—especially plantation residents—were the worst affected by the #Ditwa disaster, yet are systematically excluded from equal treatment under the GoSL’s #Rebuilding_Sri Lanka housing initiative.
3/ Despite official commitments, the promised LKR. 5M grant & land allocation to every displaced family remain denied to plantation community. This is not oversight—it is institutional discrimination.
4/ Repeated requests for a meeting of TPA & CSOs with the Pres @anuradisanayake to discuss these unresolved, community-specific injustices have been deliberately ignored.
5/ We urged France to actively use its good offices to press the GoSL to end this discriminatory practice and ensure equal rights, equal resources, and equal dignity for Malaiyaha Sri Lankans.
6/ I further appealed that France, as a leading #EU member, must insist that #Land & #Housing rights for the Malaiyaha community be made a condition for Sri Lanka’s continued access to #GSP+benefits.

The #Ditwa #Rebuilding #SriLanka Housing Initiative must include all Sri Lankans who lost housing, including the most-hit plantation families. This is national disaster management and rebuilding. Govt mustn’t push them toward Indian-funded plantation housing schemes with separate mandates. Malaiyaha people are Sri Lankans and deserve equal treatment. Both the Lankan and Indian govts must recognise this fundamental reality. #Mano_Ganesan @anuradisanayake

What was once a motorable road. Used by many, daily. A month after disaster still no repairs done except what the community had managed. Neglected by Plantation Company and not prioritised by Government. #Ury #Passara #Malaiyaham #Ditwa
An Estate Road and bridge which are no longer there in #Ury estate #Passara. This is not under RDA or PRDA or any state authority but under Company. Govt should take responsibility for infrastructure reconstruction in estate - lest these be neglected #Ditwa #Malaiyaham
#Landslides are not new to #Passara in #Badulla district. There are locations where local and internationally assisted solutions have been found. While #Ditwa was a major disaster, mitigation and preparedness is possible and must. #Badulla #Malaiyaham
Visited Ury Estate in Passara today. This family i met had been asked to return to their house after a haphazard assessment. There was a large crack going thorough their house, goat shed, poultry shed and front garden. They run when it rains. #Ditwa #Malaiyaham
