#DMTip / #GMTip As a Game master of a TTRPG, try not to describe your player characters' actions, hits, misses, failures, whatever. Describe anything else: what an NPC sees, how a tool or weapon fails, or just leave it vague with a quick sound effect and move on.

#DMTip / #GMTip When you're describing a room, try to end the description with an actionable bit of information relevant to one of the PCs. It can organically help prevent that long, awkward silence and stumbling questions as your players try to visualize the space.

DM Tip: Try dedicating at least 5-10 minutes for individual players once in a while. Take them through an immersive journey. Either personal or lore. Remember to write the vision to the music, or at least listen to the music you want to use while writing the vision. #DMtip #GMtip

Weekend #DMTip Run your game. Every single time you're scheduled to play, even if only 1 or 2 players came this week, run a game anyway. Unapologetically, run something, every single time. When you start cancelling, its hard to stop cancelling.

#DMtip "Evoke all 5 senses" is a fun idea, but you should probably limit it to no more than 3 at a time in your #TTRPG Sight is how we measure the world. Sound keeps us alert to danger. Smell ties a scene to memory. Touch lets us investigate closely. Taste is intimate.

#DMtip #dnd5e and similar #TTRPGs use XP budgets to mathematically build encounters. Monsters and traps have an XP value which you compared to the party's level (in XP) to gauge how tough the fight will be. One trick for you DMs... move the XP from your threats to the quest. 🧵

#DMTip - conversational timing is extremely difficult to get right when running a game. It may take some members of your table 30+ seconds to respond to you when you set a scene or ask for a course of action. Just wait - they'll get faster if you don't actually rush them. 1/3
