Honestly, I wish I had the patience to try out #DiscGenics new product, their allogeneic Disc Progenitor Cells. That would involve right-to-try, clearing all sorts of bureaucratic hoops, etc. etc. since it is still in clinical trials. Plus paying out of pocket to fund all the overhead.
All the best cell therapies are behind these insane bureaucratic walls -- that needs to change -- risks should be more permissible.
DiscGenics' product specifically turns 100% into human spinal disc tissue. Allogeneic meaning from a donor, without causing any immune reaction. They've cleared a few phases of clinical trials already.
Currently available cell therapies are very limited. It is #illegal to do cell expansion, which ultimately is necessary. That means letting the stem cells proliferate outside the body for a stronger, more concentrated injection back into the body, after being harvested from the body. Right now, we just extract stem cells from fat or bone marrow, and then reintroduce them into the body.
More cells, more regeneration, so culturing them in greater numbers is a no-brainer. But I guess regulators are worried about the cancer risk and #teratomas, which are random growths of tissue/organs in random parts of the body, when people use the wrong types of stem cells. Like teeth and hair or gum tissue growing in your spine, for example.
This cell therapy I will be getting will be the 4th or 5th time I've had one in my discs -- I have videos, if you want to see. But they have allowed me to walk again, when before I was stuck in a chair for 5 years, on 7 painkillers, totally isolated. I wish what is available now were cheaper and more available to those in abject pain like me.
Regenerative medicine is in its early days, but it MUST move faster. There are so many people with irreversible physical injuries that could be LIBERATED by regeneration. Focus and funding should be going in to this at much larger scales. And people who want to try experimental therapies should get subsidies from the #NIH to try them as long as they share the data.
Regeneration and repair are the greatest things in the world, in my opinion. Damage / defect undoing itself. How could there be anything more beautiful?
