L theanine is the closest thing we have to a meditation molecule. This amino acid increases Alpha brain waves, the specific bands needed to reach that "alert but calm" state required for mediation. There's a reason green tea is popular in zen culture and matcha (highest concentration of L-theanine) became a meditation ritual in and of itself. Alpha waves reflect synchronized neural activity best described as relaxed wakefulness. This is the exact state that we're missing. We're either mentally fried or aggresively overstimulated. Too much time in narrow, whiteknuckled focus and not enough in creative, diffuse mode thinking. Monks spend years optimizing for this brain wave state. Some of us don't have as much time. Using tools like L theanine can make the transition to a meditative state easier and more effective.
