The menorah in the Mishkan was not a one-time event.
It was not:
“Light it once and you’re done.”
It was:
Bring oil. Tend it. Keep it burning continually.
This is a direct challenge to the idea that one moment guarantees everything forever.
The Torah’s pattern is different. Life with God is sustained, not assumed. The flame doesn’t keep itself alive. If no oil is brought, if no one tends it, it goes out.
"For when the foolish ones took their lamps, they took no oil with them."
Don’t rely on a past flame. Ask yourself:
* Do I have oil today?
* Am I walking with Him now?
* Is my obedience current?
Because when the Bridegroom comes, it won’t matter how brightly you once burned, but only whether your lamp is still lit.

Isn't it strange how joy is presented as command when it comes time for Sukkot? It isn't, ten steps to be have a happier life. It is just, be happy and that's an order.
This should actually both confront us and comfort us. It tell us that rejoicing is a choice. We can rejoice or not rejoice. It's up to us. If I am not rejoicing, it is on me. That also means that the state of rejoicing is not beyond my reach. It is something that I can do.
We tend to treat joy as something that comes after circumstances improve. Torah treats it as something cultivated in the presence of God, regardless of circumstance.
Sukkot comes at the harvest, when everything is full.
And yet, God tells Israel to leave their solid homes and dwell in fragile booths. Why?
Because true joy is not rooted in what you have. It’s rooted in Who you trust.
The sukkah is intentionally simple. It strips away the illusion of control and replaces it with dependence. This is the place where we are especially commanded to rejoice.
This is the paradox of the Kingdom of Heaven. Joy grows strongest where self-confidence dies. Joy comes when comes when we trust instead of grasp, when we remember instead of forget, and when we take time to enjoy what we have instead of taking time to demand more. Entitlement is a joy killer. It is coveteousness and makes us see ourselves as have-nots and leads us to hate those we label as haves.
Sukkot teaches us to rejoice in dependence, not in control.
