When psychiatrists and mental health facilities are exposed for abusive care, there's a consequent narrative suggesting the abused people didn't receive "correct" psychiatric care. By any standards, correct care would result in recovery and a quality of life where a person could go forward with more certainty about their future. The harm however resulting from psychiatric prescribing habits and brain damage resulting from ECT point to the fact there is no recovery, no quality of life, no future - no correct psychiatric care. Just a revolving psychiatric door and more damage. Mitigating statements from trust managements governing the failed mental health services include apologies with statements that include tired mantras like “lessons need to be learned” and “changes have been implemented.” But lessons aren't learned and changes, whether implemented or not, don't make any difference. Investigations and reports into psychiatric abuse are a regular occurrence. They keep on coming. The investigations don’t resolve the abuse because, among other things, they don’t insist on accountability.
