...one possible application comes from food processing (@DanielWefers๐): #coffee beans can be roasted in a #FluidizedBed (but it is not always done like that, just to mention this). The beans are heated up with hot air and mixed during the #process, all beans heat up evenly..

This is called a #FluidizedBed in #ChemicalEngineering. We used #3Dprinting for the black part to get a defined shape. There are styrofoam particles and air is blown through the bottom.
Fluidized beds allow good mixing of solid particles.
What is it used for? What do you think?
A spout fluidized bed modelled with coupled CFD-DEM. Liquid spray is inserted as passive tracer and deposited onto the particles.
