Watched one of my favourites this morning DELICATESSEN. A perfect touch of post-apocalyptic black comedy. Love how tactile the film is with Jeunet & Caro taking joy in the rhythm, choreography & design that make up the world but also make for some of the best jokes! #frameaday
First time seeing a colour Ozu film on our self-isolation film festival. It delivered on both areas that I've been reading up on - shooting comedy and control of colour. The film's colour feels harmonious and controlled (but never forced) plus some solid fart jokes... #frameaday
Moved quite drastically from colour to B&W on our self-isolation film festival. I'd always thought of IN COLD BLOOD as being very classical in its language. I hadn't appreciated how modern the camera is like in this scene where we discover the murder. #frameaday
Next up in our self isolation film festival was CABARET. I hadn’t seen it in about 15 years and never before appreciated the visual and editorial precision matching pefectly with the choreography. Also loved the abstraction of the audience during the numbers #frameaday
On to a mix of new and comfort films .... Re-watching 'The Big Lebowski' and in awe of the precision. There are some stunning sequences like the introduction of Jesus but then they whip in to the incredible rhythm of a long dialogue scene playing in a held 3 shot . #frameaday
First day of calendar now fully cleared of film and tv work... Catching up on books and watch a new (or not seen in a while) film a day. First up was amazing 'Defending your Life' directed by Albert Brooks. A film comedy master but this time with extra visual precision #frameaday
