When the Ratings for the #IndyCar #Freedom250GP come out today or tomorrow, I think it has a Good Chance of outdrawing Seahawks-Titans that same night on the same network. Racing in the Nation's Capital as well as the amount of Media Hype should contribute to a big rating.
El #Freedom250GP de IndyCar en Washington DC 🇺🇸 fue algo histórico, pero creo que lo haría menos especial que se volviera a repetir.
Muchísima repercusión global (casi tanta o incluso más que Indy 500 diría) y grandes marcas involucradas que nunca se han patrocinado en la categoría, sí, pero creo que sería mejor buscar otros destinos en esa zona del país buscando circuitos/óvalos como Pensilvania, Kentucky, New Hampshire o Virginia, como ejemplos.
En cuanto a acción en pista, la carrera en sí tampoco es que fuera una gran locura, siendo sinceros. El circuito estaba hecho para que produjera bastantes adelantamientos y luchas, pero "solo" tuvimos 122, algo muy normalito en callejeros de IndyCar.
Este evento ha sido pagado en su totalidad por la propia categoría y FOX, según tengo entendido, cosa que es una barbaridad. Se han construido 1800 barreras, los 4 puentes que cruzaban la pista los llevaron desde Arlington, recogieron 1000 neumáticos (para los muros) de Detroit y puesto 18000 metros de vallas metálicas, una absoluta locura. Además de tener que cortar el tráfico en la zona más importante de la capital del país...
También es verdad que ha dejado muy buenas cifras en cuanto a otros aspectos, por ejemplo en merchandising se ha recaudado cerca de 1M de d��lares, cosa que es prácticamente imposible que pase en otros circuitos, y que hubieron casi 300k personas apuntadas para intentar conseguir entradas (aunque eran gratuitas), pero realmente compensa con todo lo que habrá costado?
El gobierno de EEUU está apretando para que el evento se repita por lo menos 5 años más, pero en mi opinión creo que le haría perder "aura" a este Gran Premio. Prefiero que arrastren a todos los posibles nuevos aficionados o visitantes a un óvalo medianamente cercano a la capital para aprovechar pistas que ya han estado en el calendario y de una parte del mapa donde apenas se visita desde hace años.
Lo dicho, yo creo que habría que dejarlo tal y como estaba pensado: un Gran Premio para celebrar los 250 años de la independencia. Lo de hacerlo a 250 millas para redondear aún más la idea me pareció bastante bien y lo hizo más único incluso, haciendo una "carrera de resistencia" en un urbano como nunca se había hecho, pero eso, creo que hacerlo más veces no sería ideal.
Dicho todo esto y a la espera de saber las cifras de audiencias y la decisión final sobre su continuidad en el calendario o no, os dejo 250 segundos de tráfico en National Mall. 🏛️ #INDYCAR
