It doesn't take much to say,"Hi, Mrs. X, I'm your doctor; how are you?; Is it okay if I ask your son a few questions."
Older adults who are not given the opportunity to speak may be victims of abuse!
It is also challenging to manage the expectations of an overprotective family while maintaining the patient's autonomy.
