Several of us lent our voices in support of the Puja Committee members arguing that any police interference in our most important festival was just not acceptable. Durga Puja is not a festival for only the Bengalis, but all other communities also get together to enjoy themselves. This is what I have seen for as long I can remember. Why then were paramilitary forces sent to spoil the atmosphere in such a festival? Should we now expect intimidation by the paramilitary forces whenever we congregate? We must demand answers before it is too late.
