A 7.1 magnitude earthquake has hit Japan's Kumamoto prefecture, with several reported casualties and injuries.
HOT is calling for volunteers to help complete validation of two mapping projects created by Crisis Mappers Japan in response to earlier floods in the prefecture. Your contributions will help strengthen the availability of validated local map data to support disaster response and recovery efforts.

Tasking Manager v5.0 is LIVE!
We’re excited to launch a major upgrade to the Tasking Manager, now built on a faster, more scalable foundation with FastAPI. This release marks a huge step forward in performance, reliability, and future-readiness for the platform.
Key improvements include:
• A full backend migration from Flask to FastAPI
• 2.5x more request capacity and nearly half the response time
• Near-perfect success rates under pressure
• Better error handling, updated frontend, and improved CI/CD
