We have just had an insightful, fun, and simply incredible International Business Studies Trip (#IBST) with our amazing @Cambridge_Uni Global Executive #MBA and #EMBA students in #Mexico City!!! 🥳
Check out this blog on what we were up

#CWR Ceres Power knocks #IBST off the No 1 most shorted share in the UK almost 16% - shorts have almost doubled since July: SP almost halved
#VTY is down to just 13% short off a high of 21% . With the SP near 30 year lows ishorters cover and take take profits: some hedgies must have made a killing on that

a good day to announce good results for #LIKE and #CCT - timing NOT "time-in" 🙃BIG pops in UK Homebuilders #GLE #TW #PSN #BTRW #IBST and adjacent construction/bldg supplies in #MSLH #GEN #FORT #BREE #BRCK #TPK with home improvement #TPT #HWDN along for the ride ... lifts all boats 👇

"Your First Home" good news as UK Homebuilders is one of the worst performing sectors YTD -9% also has some of the highest short interest #IBST and #VTY are no 1 and 2 in the UK
Given scheme aimed at new build and p <£600K expect #GLE #PSN to outperform tho higher shorts in #TW #BKG #BWY so sector read-across should lift all boats
on a liquidity adj basis( days to cover in volume) they rank #VTY has 28 DTC #TW 23 DTC #BKG 15 DTC
For those who indulge in schadenfreude you may see some shorters cover tho bear in mind they have done very well with #VTY making 30 year lows in '26 - they kitchen sinked their latest update last Thurs see here https://t.co/kFrPOJyVW0

Pre scan anlaysis fo #VTY this am - was bottom of the heap : chart shows the value destruction from 1430p in '24 to 246p : it is the highest shorted share in the UK at over 17% shorts for reason ...hasn't taken out recent ATLs which is encouraging ..often the darkest hour is before the dawn tho shorts booking profits can flatter initial price response (the 3 day rule on knife catching)
#VTY Vistry Group PLC, the UK's largest mixed-tenure housing developer operating across open market, affordable, and private rented sectors, released its half-year results for the period ended 30 June 2026 alongside the conclusions of a comprehensive strategic review led by Chief Executive Adam Daniels. The Group reported an adjusted pre-tax loss of £83.3m compared to an adjusted pre-tax profit of £80.6m in the prior-year period, while statutory loss before tax was £661.3m (H1 2025: profit of £40.9m). The statutory loss was driven by a non-cash goodwill impairment of £475.0m and a net building safety charge of £73.2m. Adjusted revenue contracted 8.9% to £1,703.3m as total housing completions declined 8.5% to 6,304 units. Net debt expanded to £468.8m from £293.1m, reflecting operational cash absorption and working capital outflows. The strategic review announced a downsizing of the business to target approximately 12,000 completions annually (down from previously guided targets), consolidating from 25 to 12 operational regions, completely exiting open market speculative developments in the South East of England, and reshaping the land bank. Banking syndicates granted interest cover covenant waivers for full-year 2026 and half-year 2027 in exchange for a £70m minimum monthly liquidity test.
THE SURPRISE:
Statutory pre-tax results fell into a loss of £661.3m, heavily impacted by an unexpected £475.0m goodwill impairment, an additional £73.7m building safety provision, and £558.5m in total exceptional charges. Adjusted pre-tax losses of £83.3m missed historical seasonal trends, burdened by aggressive price discounting on finished open-market stock and early write-downs from the strategic review. Management abandoned its long-standing volume ambition, cutting medium-term targets to 12,000 completions per annum and exiting open market housebuilding in the South East of England, a decision expected to trigger an additional £200m in write-downs in the second half. A complete restructuring of the land bank will drive a further £250m in site write-downs and margin reductions in the second half, alongside £30m in cash restructuring overheads. Net debt climbed to £468.8m, forcing management to seek banking covenant waivers to avoid default.
THE REALITY:
The partnerships business model has encountered operational execution challenges, inconsistent regional oversight, and capital absorption, prompting management to seek covenant waivers from lenders. Second-half financial reporting will absorb an estimated £470m in strategic review charges and write-downs across the South East portfolio and unviable land holdings. Open-market summer sales rates slowed to 0.30 reservations per outlet per week, reflecting mortgage affordability constraints and falling consumer confidence. Structural liabilities remain substantial, with building safety remediation obligations expanding to £352.8m across 255 buildings and deferred land creditor liabilities standing at £871.2m. The business faces a period of operational transition as it cuts headcounts and consolidates 25 regional operating offices into 12 hubs. Furthermore, shareholder distributions remain suspended indefinitely until balance sheet leverage reduces toward target levels.
THE VERDICT:
Vistry's half-year report confirms an operational and financial reset, requiring substantial asset impairments, operational consolidation, and bank covenant interventions to stabilise the platform. However, securing a direct £350m grant under the new Social and Affordable Housing Programme—the largest single award allocated—confirms its position as the UK Government's primary affordable housing delivery partner. Lowering volume targets to a sustainable 12,000 units focused on the North, Midlands, and West aligns corporate strategy with capital realities and reduces speculative exposure. The forward order book of £3.3bn provides near-term volume support, with 91% of full-year units already secured. If management successfully executes the £50m administrative overhead reduction and completes the land bank reset, the simplified, de-risked business could deliver improved returns on capital by fiscal 2028.
EXPECTED MARKET RESPONSE:
The stock faces heavy selling pressure as the market digests the £661m statutory loss, the £475m goodwill write-off, and the £470m in projected second-half write-downs. The reality of interest-cover banking waivers and downsized volume targets will trigger institutional earnings downgrades. Any share price recovery will depend on the smooth appointment of a new CFO and operational delivery against the new 12,000-unit framework.

#IBST closed at a new all time low today - 15.5% shorts or 15 days to cover in normal volume
