🧠✨ Go Pros Don’t Count Points — They Feel Them!   New research from Korea University and Dankook University just dropped a fascinating finding: when top Go players estimate position in close games, they may not be calculating points — they’re sensing it with a trained instinct! 📍 In this study, MRI scans were used to observe brain activity while professional and amateur players looked at positions from real games and answered: “Who is winning?”   🔍 The results? In professionals, the part of the brain that lit up wasn’t just the prefrontal cortex (used for decision-making and logic). The cerebellum was activated — an area typically linked to physical movement, balance, and unconscious coordination.   💡 What does this mean? For pros, estimating territory isn’t just mental calculation — it’s a deeply internalized skill that feels automatic, much like how athletes “just know” where to move. Even more surprising: players who became professionals at a younger age showed stronger cerebellum activation, suggesting this intuitive skill is built through years of early practice.   🧠 For amateurs, the brain showed more activity in areas related to deliberate reasoning, indicating that they still rely on conscious calculation rather than intuition.   It’s not just about solving tsumego and memorizing joseki — to truly improve, we need to train our sense of balance on the board. The pros have literally hardwired this into their brains. 📖 Source: Korea Baduk Association — Report on Go Brain Research (June 2024) 🔗 https://t.co/NcNMmuy5KR 🗯 What do you think?
