I was listening to Mark Levin describe Israel as the Holy Land. I respect that perspective, but the Holy Land is bigger than a modern political border.
Preparations have already begun for the 2,000th anniversary of #Jesus' #baptism.
#Israel & #Jordan are preparing to welcome millions of #Christian pilgrims to the #JordanRiver in 2030.

Day 9 - PALESTINE
#Palestine refers to a historic region in the Levant (Western Asia) between the #MediterraneanSea and the #JordanRiver, with a total area of roughly 6,020 km² for the Palestinian territories (West Bank and Gaza Strip). It features varied terrain coastal plains, fertile highlands, the Jordan Valley, and arid areas and holds profound religious, historical, and cultural significance for Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike. The population is approximately 5.5 million in the territories, with a rich Palestinian Arab heritage expressed through literature, music (e.g., dabke dance), embroidery (tatreez), and cuisine.
HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
ANCIENT ROOTS: Inhabited for millennia, the area saw #Canaanites, #Philistines, #Israelites, and successive empires (Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Hellenistic, Roman/Byzantine). The name "Palestine" derives from "#Philistia" via Roman renaming after the #BarKokhbarevolt (135 CE).
ISLAMIC & OTTOMAN ERAS: Arab Muslim conquest in the 7th century integrated it into Islamic caliphates; it flourished under Umayyads, Abbasids, and later Crusader, Ayyubid (Saladin), and Mamluk rule. Ottoman control lasted from 1517 until World War I.
MODERN PERIOD: After the #Ottoman collapse, British Mandate (1920–1948). The 1947 UN Partition Plan proposed Jewish and Arab states; the 1948 Arab-Israeli War led to the establishment of Israel and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians (#Nakba). Jordan annexed the West Bank and Egypt controlled Gaza until 1967. The 1967 Six-Day War brought Israeli occupation of the territories. The #PalestineLiberationOrganisation (PLO) emerged, with the 1993 Oslo Accords creating the Palestinian Authority for limited self-rule. Ongoing disputes centre on statehood, borders, Jerusalem, refugees, and settlements.
The flag, adopted in 1964 by the PLO and based on the 1916 Arab Revolt banner, symbolises pan-Arab unity: black, white, and green stripes with a red triangle.

Day 8: #Egypt 🇪🇬
Egypt is a transcontinental country in northeast Africa and the Sinai Peninsula in Asia, covering about 1,001,450 km². Dominated by the Nile River, it features fertile valleys and deltas amid vast deserts (Western Sahara and Eastern), with Mediterranean and Red Sea coastlines. Home to over 110 million people, mostly along the Nile, it blends ancient heritage with vibrant modern Arab culture, renowned for Pharaonic monuments, Islamic architecture, and warm hospitality.
Expanded Historical Facts
- #AncientCivilisation (c. 3100–30 BC): Unified around 3100 BC by Narmer/Menes, Egypt saw the Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BC) build the Giza Pyramids and Great Sphinx. The Middle and New Kingdoms brought expansion, with pharaohs like Hatshepsut, Akhenaten, Tutankhamun, and Ramses II. It pioneered early writing (hieroglyphs), mathematics, medicine, and monumental architecture.
- Foreign Rule & Resilience: Conquered by Persians (525 BC), then Alexander the Great (332 BC) leading to the Ptolemaic dynasty (Greek rulers, including Cleopatra VII). Rome annexed it in 30 BC as a vital grain province. Arab Muslim conquest in 639–642 AD introduced Islam and Arabic, followed by Fatimid, Ayyubid (Saladin), and Mamluk eras.
- Ottoman to Modern Era: Ottoman rule from 1517, with Muhammad Ali Pasha founding a modern dynasty in the 19th century (industrialisation, education reforms). British occupation began in 1882; nominal independence came in 1922. The 1952 Revolution overthrew the monarchy, led by the Free Officers (Nasser became president), nationalising the Suez Canal in 1956 (Suez Crisis). Subsequent leaders included Sadat (1978 Camp David Accords) and Mubarak, with the 2011 Arab Spring and current presidency under el-Sisi since 2014.
Egypt remains a cultural and political powerhouse in the Arab world, with a strong parliamentary republic (semi-presidential system), economy driven by tourism, Suez Canal trade, agriculture (cotton, rice), and energy resources.
Flag: Three horizontal bands red (sacrifice), white (purity/revolution), black (end of oppression) with the golden Eagle of Saladin emblemising sovereignty and victory.
Suggested after Czechia in the series.
