Prince Khuenra, c. 2490–2472 B.C
▫️Khuenre (Khuenre) was a 4th Dynasty Egyptian prince. He was the son of king #Menkaure and his sister, Queen Khamerernebty II. He was the grandson of #Khafre and Khamerernebty I, and the great-grandfather of #Khufu, the monarch who erected the Great Pyramid of Giza. Furthermore, he worked as a secretary and held the title, “asole companion of his father”.
Khuenre was his parents’ eldest son, although it was Shepseskaf who succeeded the throne and not him. Khuenre was buried at Menkaure’s cemetery (MQ 1). He is portrayed as a small boy standing in front of his seated mother on the south wall.

The Eternal Gaze of Rahotep & Nofret 💫
▫️#Rahotep, “High Priest of Ra at Heliopolis” & “King’s Son of His Body”, is thought to be a son of King #Sneferu & Hetepheres I, making him brother to #Khufu and uncle to #Khafre. As a prince, priest, and overseer of royal works, he lived at the dawn of #AncientEgypt’s solar age, when kings and priests were seen as vessels of divine light.
Beside him sits his wife #Nofret, “The Beautiful One.” Their painted limestone statues, carved around c. 2580 B.C., gleam with life, eyes of quartz and crystal that still seem to watch us through time. When discovered in 1871 by Auguste Mariette at Meidum, the workmen reportedly fled, thinking the pair alive.
There is something almost supernatural about them; for those familiar with the work of @AnneRiceAuthor, “Those Who Must Be Kept,” spring to mind: the immortal ones, frozen in eternal stillness, their ancient breath held still for four and a half millennia.
