Top Tweets for #KeywordOfTheWeek
I’m declaring my #keywordoftheweek FOCUS. With lots of projects, it’s easy for me to jump task to task, follow whatever exciting thing comes in my inbox or door. I’m giving myself permission to single-task this week. Follow through, Caitie! 😂👏🤣

My #keywordoftheweek didn’t really take off, but it hit home this morning: a brilliant student pointed out that some things I “had to do” this week were still things that I “GOT to do.” What helps me stay GROUNDED? That my work truly is my job and my joy... even when it’s not 😉

It’s a bit scary, but here I go! Friends, students, & I have a routine of announcing intentions to each other, & I’m using my #keywordoftheweek: my intention today is to GROUND my work, building on what my students already know & using our strengths & successes. No rushing.

I fell flat on my tuchus this morning. Literally. That ice is not messing around! Seems appropriate, so I’ll declare my #keywordoftheweek as GROUND. What helps you get your bearings or get the foundation built for your day? Your writing? 🤔

My #keywordoftheweek ended up being TRUST. It was part of my message at the Write-In this week (that we could trust our voices & our work), but it kept coming back to me working on a co-authored article... We have to trust each other as collaborators and trust our plan 😊

Sometimes words just arrive in our lives. Today I woke up with the phrase “great love” speaking to me, so my #keywordoftheweek is WITH. I’m going to see what happens when I go through my activities today “with great love.” What do you want to carry WITH you today? 🧳

#keywordoftheweek: COAST. In swim lessons as a kid, I was told often to stop working so frantically and let myself glide more. I learned to go farther with less energy. So 2019, I want to know: What’s already working? What are the good habits we can keep up? 🌊 Ride it, writers

#keywordoftheweek I exercise, I journal, I do things that refuel & help me improve. But when things get tough, the routines can hold things together. My job? BE THERE. Get to the yoga mat, pick up the pen... The good habits carry me through! How can you lean on your routines?

Caitie’s #keywordoftheweek is BE THERE. When things get stressful, sometimes the most pressing things feel like the most important… but confusing those two can get us into a lot of trouble! What do you need to BE THERE for this week? #5minutejournals

It’s slick out there, Tigers! Take your time getting across campus... AND finishing strong. Our #keywordoftheweek is TAKE YOUR TIME (yep, we cheated: it’s three words). What does it look like to TAKE YOUR TIME in drafting those final papers?

In mindfulness practices—like free-writing or meditation—people talk about having a “gentle focus.” Concentration requires focus, but remember that an anchor can drag you down: what does a “gentle focus” look like in your work? #keywordoftheweek

#keywordoftheweek is GENTLE. Here’s a little reminder from Margaret Atwood that writing is a full-body experience. Her fifth rule of writing? “Do back exercises. Pain is distracting.” https://t.co/wP2KGFx29T
Sometimes I play this game where I pack everything in case I have time to work on it, and my poor bag’s stuffed. It’s a great image for my #keywordoftheweek FIT: “balancing” life doesn’t count for crap if I’m overcommitted everywhere. Where’s your flex? Got enough wiggle room?

We know resources are finite yet feel like we must spend them all. But as Stephen Covey says, “The Scarcity Mentality is the zero-sum paradigm of life.” The other side of FIT is fullness, satisfaction: I will not define my writing by the things I can’t give. #keywordoftheweek

“No truth [is] so sublime but it may be trivial tomorrow in the light of new thoughts. ... People wish to be settled; only as far as they are unsettled is there any hope for them.” — Emerson #keywordoftheweek

Sometimes students apologize for their work, for what they did “wrong” or what they couldn’t do.
“Did you do your best?” When they say yes, I ask, “How could I expect more?”
What could I achieve if I SETTLED for who I am and not who I think I’m supposed to be? #keywordoftheweek

#keywordoftheweek SETTLE: How do I settle in to truly listen to others? Ta-Nehisi Coates on the process of coming into consciousness: it is “a constant questioning, questioning as ritual, questioning as exploration rather than the search for certainty.” ❤️ Time to get curious.

I’m cozying up a new #keywordoftheweek: SETTLE. It gets a bad rap, but I’m thinking about what it means to settle into a big writing project. How do I pace it... and myself? Am I getting anywhere?
Maybe I find answers when I give myself the time and space to settle on in.

A student looks at a peer and says, “But they are just so much better at writing.”
What can my #keywordoftheweek CONTEXT tell me about “better”?
To find the growth, I would not look to their peers. Where are YOU in your relationship with writing? Where do you want to go?

#keywordoftheweek! CONTEXT can mean asking, “Who’s at the table?”
Writing is entering a conversation. How do I make space for others? How do I speak with and not for them? Who’s not “at the table” with me? Why?
CONTEXT matters in all writing I do. How about you?
