GOD and CONTEMPLATION
“How exalted is His Majesty, and there is no deity but Him! Praise belongs exclusively to God, proceeds from God, exists through God, and is for the sake of God—equal in number to all the atoms of the universe multiplied by the fractions of every minute across all time, from the primordial dawn of creation to the end of time, from eternity past to eternity future. Praise belongs to God to the measure of the revolution of a circle in an infinite chain triggered by saying ‘Praise be to God’ (Al-hamdulillah).”
— Bediüzzaman Said Nursi, Tefekkürname (Book of Contemplation), The 29th Letter (29th Lema)
A Sufi Analysis of the Tefekkürname
Extracted from Bediüzzaman Said Nursi’s Tefekkürname in The 29th Letter, this passage stands as a masterpiece of mystical contemplation (tasawwufi tefekkür) centered entirely upon Tawhid (the absolute Oneness of God) and Ma'rifatullah (the direct, experiential knowledge of God). The text does not merely record verbal thanksgiving; it conveys a state of awe (hayret) and spiritual absorption (istighraq), wherein the heart and soul call the entire cosmos to witness the divine praise.
Below is an analysis structured around its core MYSTICAL CONCEPTS:
📌1. Majesty (Jalal) and the Pinnacle of Monotheism (Tawhid)
Text: “How exalted is His Majesty, and there is no deity but Him!”
🖊️Sufi Analysis: The text opens with an emphasis on God’s attribute of Jalal—denoting majesty, absolute power, omnipotence, and transcendent grandeur. Confronted by this divine majesty, the spiritual traveler (salik) recognizes their own fundamental nothingness. This realization leads directly to the declaration of Monotheism (Kalimat al-Tawhid). In Islamic mysticism, the manifestation of Jalal evokes awe (hayret) and reverent fear (khawf), consuming every illusion of self-sufficiency (masiwa—everything other than God) and leaving only the Absolute Reality (Al-Haqq).
📌2. A Cosmic Hierarchy of Praise
Text: “...equal in number to all the atoms of the universe multiplied by the fractions of every minute across all time...”
🖊️Sufi Analysis: Bediüzzaman elevates praise (hamd) from a private, individual utterance into a cosmic act.
🪶Atoms of the Universe (Zarrat-i Ka'inat): From subatomic particles to vast galaxies, all created entities glorify their Creator through their state of being (lisan al-hal). Through silent contemplation, the seeker joins this universal chorus.
🪶Enfolding Space and Time: By multiplying the smallest units of time (‘ashire—tenths of a second or Planck-scale fractions) across all history by the totality of atoms in existence, the text illustrates that God’s perfection and blessings exceed all numerical capacity. Faced with this infinity, the creature can only offer praise by acknowledging their own inherent incapacity ('ajz).
📌3. The Mystical Truth of Praise: Annihilation (Fana) and Subsistence (Baq'a)
Text: “...Praise belongs exclusively to God, proceeds from God, exists through God, and is for the sake of God.”
🖊️Sufi Analysis: This phrasing represents the spiritual heart of the passage, describing the dissolution of human willpower into the Divine Will (Fana' fi-Llah) followed by eternal abiding in God (Baqa' bi-Llah):
🪶Proceeds from God: The very impulse and capacity to praise are themselves gifts from God; ultimately, God is the true Praiser (Al-Hamid).
🪶Exists through God (Bi-Llah): The seeker offers praise not through self-derived power, but through divine grace and enablement (tawfiq), relinquishing all personal claim to strength.
🪶For the sake of God (Li-Llah): Divine Essence, Attributes, and Names are the sole motivation for praise, free from any worldly or otherworldly self-interest.
🪶Belongs exclusively to God (Li-Llah): All praise, regardless of its origin or immediate recipient, ultimately returns to the Possessor of Majesty, the source of all perfection.
📌4. The Infinite Cycle: Between Pre-Eternity and Post-Eternity
Text: “...to the measure of the revolution of a circle in an infinite chain triggered by saying ‘Praise be to God’.”
🖊️Sufi Analysis: Here, pre-eternity (Azal) and post-eternity (Abad) converge.
🪶Infinite Chain and Circle: Uttering “Al-hamdulillah” is itself a blessing requiring fresh gratitude. Every act of praise generates a new duty of praise, establishing an unending cycle of thanksgiving (the revolution of a circle).
🪶Note (Hashiya): This infinite sequence is not an impossible causal regress (tasalsul al-muhal) in classical theology; rather, it is a poetic and mystical metaphor illustrating the endless nature of divine grace and the creature's perpetual debt of gratitude.
🪶Summary of the Seeker's Journey:The Tefekkürname transports the spiritual traveler from the dynamics of atomic motion to the depths of eternity. In this journey, the seeker realizes their absolute powerlessness ('ajz) and poverty (faqr), beholds the universe as a grand sanctuary of praise (dhikr), dissolves spiritual pride (fana') by realizing that even gratitude is a gift, and remains eternally bound to God (baqa') in a state of perpetual wonder.
QUANTUM PHYSICS PERSPECTIVE;
When analyzed through quantum mechanics, these mystical concepts align naturally with the dynamics of the subatomic realm and the holistic structure of the cosmos:
📌1. Atomic Vibration and Cosmic Worship
Text: “...all the atoms of the universe...”
🖊️Quantum Analysis: Classical physics views matter as solid and static, but quantum theory reveals that atoms and subatomic particles (quarks, electrons) exist in continuous vibration, motion, and spin.
🖊️Quantum Interpretation: This ceaseless energy exchange corresponds to the Sufi notion of praise through state-of-being (lisan al-hal). Every particle participates in an integrated "cosmic dance," expressing its Creator through structured movement. Matter at its deepest level is dynamic; praise is an active, continuously renewed process rather than a static event.
📌2. Time Quantization and Momentary Creation
Text: “...multiplied by the fractions of every minute across all time...”
🖊️Quantum Analysis: Instead of treating time strictly as a continuous fluid, modern physics considers quantized limits like Planck time—indivisible, fundamental temporal units.
🖊️Quantum Interpretation: By multiplying the total atomic count by these minute temporal units (‘ashire), Bediüzzaman links praise to instantaneous creation. In the quantum domain, particle states refresh at every moment. Praise becomes an immediate response to the newly sustained realities generated in each temporal quantum.
📌3. Entanglement and the Holistic Universe
Text: “...the revolution of a circle in an infinite chain...”
🖊️Quantum Analysis: Quantum entanglement demonstrates that particles can remain interconnected across vast distances, operating within a unified, holistic system rather than as isolated fragments.
🖊️Quantum Interpretation: An individual's utterance of “Al-hamdulillah” resonates through this broader systemic network. The conscious contemplation of a single observer connects with the broader universal chorus, turning individual thanksgiving into a continuous feedback loop across an interconnected cosmos.
📌4. Field Theory and the Divine Source
Text: “...Praise belongs exclusively to God, proceeds from God, exists through God...”
🖊️Quantum Analysis: Quantum Field Theory (QFT) posits that particles are localized excitations of underlying universal fields rather than standalone entities.
🖊️Quantum Interpretation: This formulation echoes the relationship between fields and their manifestations. The act of praise arises within the seeker through an underlying spiritual state (tajalliyat). The observer acts as a medium through which praise emerges, flows, and ultimately reconciles with its primary source.
STRING THEORY PERSPECTIVE:
Reframing the Tefekkürname through String Theory expands this vision of cosmic praise from particles and fields toward fundamental harmony and multidimensional geometry:
📌1. From Point Particles to Vibrating Strings
Text: “...all the atoms of the universe...”
🖊️String Theory Analysis: String theory replaces zero-dimensional point particles with one-dimensional, vibrating energy filaments (strings) operating at the Planck scale.
🖊️String Theory Interpretation: Rather than static matter, the fundamental units of existence act like vibrating strings on a musical instrument, producing different modes that manifest as distinct particles. The universe operates less like a collision of discrete billiard balls and more like a vast, continuous symphony. Contemplation becomes the act of perceiving this underlying harmonic order.
“The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [God] by His praise, but you do not understand their exalting.” — Quran 17:44
📌2. Infinite Modes of Vibration
Text: “...multiplied by the total number of atoms...”
🖊️String Theory Analysis: While standard particle models list a finite set of elementary particles, string theory allows for theoretically infinite vibrational modes and frequencies.
🖊️String Theory Interpretation: Connecting the scope of praise to the fundamental units of matter encompasses both active, observable particles and the infinite landscape of theoretical energy states. Praise mirrors the boundless potentiality inherent within the fundamental laws of nature.
📌3. Geometry of Extra Dimensions
Text: “...the revolution of a circle in an infinite chain...”
🖊️String Theory Analysis: String theory requires extra spatial dimensions (10 or 11 dimensions total) curled into intricate, compactified geometries known as Calabi-Yau manifolds. Strings vibrate within these coiled spatial loops.
🖊️String Theory Interpretation: The visual of a "revolviling circle" reflects these compactified geometric dimensions. Strings move and curl through complex cyclic paths, framing universal order not as a flat linear progression, but as a multi-dimensional, self-referential geometry.
📌4. The Unified Source
Text: “...proceeds from God, exists through God...”
🖊️String Theory Analysis: String theory aims to unify all fundamental forces (gravity, electromagnetism, nuclear forces) into a single overarching mathematical framework—a Unified Field Theory.
🖊️String Theory Interpretation: This spiritual formulation mirrors the search for a single underlying source. The observed diversity of phenomena stems from variations of one fundamental underlying reality. The cosmos functions as a unified expression of divine power, harmonizing all individual expressions back into their singular origin.

THE SECOND FLASH:
Look at the seal of life that has been impressed upon living creatures among countless other seals. Indeed, a living being, by virtue of its comprehensiveness, is a small example of the universe, a beautiful and sweet fruit of the tree of the universe, and a nucleus (seed) for the universe’s existence and for existence itself — a nucleus in which the Almighty God has embedded the exemplars of many worlds. It is as though that living being is a drop or a point that has been milked, with supreme wisdom and in accordance with specific laws, from all existences. In this respect, the creation of a single living being cannot be attributed to anything other than the Almighty God, who holds the entire universe in His hand of disposal.
Indeed, anyone whose intellect remains sound will understand, upon reflection, that to make the honeybee an index for countless things, to inscribe most of the issues of the Book of the Universe within the essence of man, to embed the program (software-DNA) of the fig tree inside the fig seed, to make man’s heart an example and a window opening onto thousands of worlds, and to write the entire history of human life together with all its attachments (memories, connections, and records) in humanity’s faculty of memory — all of this can only belong to the Creator who creates everything. And such an act of disposal is a seal that belongs exclusively and solely to the Lord of the Worlds.
/ Mesnevi-i Nuriye / Bediuzzaman
=============================
⏳THE SUFI ANALYSIS OF THE TEXT:
Although this passage from Bediuzzaman Said Nursi’s Mesnevi-i Nuriye appears to be written with the data of kalam (theology) and tafsir (Qur’anic exegesis), in its essence it contains the deepest philosophical and gnostic (irfani) expressions of Sufism — particularly the schools of Wahdat al-Wujud (Unity of Being) and Wahdat al-Shuhud (Unity of Witnessing).
When we pass the text through a Sufi filter, the following fundamental truths emerge:
📌1. The Secret of the Quintessence of the Universe (Zübde-i Âlem) and the Perfect Human (İnsan-ı Kâmil)
The expression “a living being, by virtue of its comprehensiveness, is a small example of the universe… a beautiful and sweet fruit of the tree of the universe” is the direct manifestation of the Sufi principle: “The universe is a great human being, and the human being is a small universe” (el-İnsanu kevnün sağîr, vel-kevnu insânun kebîr).
📡Microcosm–Macrocosm Relationship: In Sufism the universe is likened to a tree, and the human being (or living beings in general) to its final and ripest fruit. The fruit carries within itself the entire genetic code of the tree — that is, the manifestations of the Divine Names.
📡Comprehensiveness (Câmiiyet): Especially the human being is born with the capacity to serve as a mirror for all the Divine Names. Whatever exists in the vast galaxies, the angelic realms, or the elemental worlds has its counterpart in the spiritual, mental, and physical structure of the human being.
📌2. The Metaphor of the Drop and the Point (From Unity to Multiplicity, and from Multiplicity to Unity)
The phrase “a drop or a point milked from all existences” evokes the symbolism of the drop and the point frequently used by the Sufis.
📡The Reality of the Drop: A drop of water is not separate from the ocean; it carries all the chemical properties of the ocean. In Sufi language, every living drop distilled from the ocean of the universe points directly to its Owner — the One and Unique (Vâhid-i Ehad).
📡The Secret of the Point: In Sufism, unity (wahdat) is symbolized by the point. All letters and words (the world of multiplicity) are nothing but the expansion of a single point. Calling a living being “a point” indicates that it has been distilled directly from the divine center of unity.
📌3. The Heart: A Window Opening onto Thousands of Worlds
Bediuzzaman’s statement that God “makes man’s heart an example and a window to thousands of worlds” is in complete harmony with Sufism’s heart-centered understanding of existence.
📡The House of God (Baytullah): The sacred hadith qudsi, “I was not contained by the earth or the heavens, yet I was contained in the heart of My believing servant,” declares that the heart possesses a spiritual capacity greater than the entire universe.
📡The Quality of Being a Window: The heart is a door opening onto the World of Sovereignty (Âlem-i Malakut). The more the heart is purified, the more clearly the unseen realms can be witnessed through this window. Most of the issues of the “Book of the Universe” are written in the depths of this heart.
📌4. The Seal of Life (Sikke-i Tawhid)
The repeated emphasis on the “seal” (hâtem) is the most concrete expression of the manifestation of Tawhid in Sufism.
Just as a sultan’s seal placed at the bottom of a letter makes every word and decree in that letter belong to him, Bediuzzaman sees the quality of “life” as the brightest seal stamped upon the universe. Life unites light, air, water, sustenance, and elements in a single center. For a tiny bee to sustain its life, the sun must rise, spring must come, and flowers must bloom. Therefore, whoever created the bee is also the One who organizes the sun and the spring. In Sufism this is called seeing unity (wahdat) within multiplicity (kathrat).
In summary, in this text Bediuzzaman unites the Sufi contemplative methods of afaqi (outer-world) and anfusi (inner-world) journeying. From the DNA program inside the fig seed to the memory in the human heart, he reads everything as a transcendent inscription and a seal of Tawhid belonging to Allah, the Lord of Majesty and Beauty (Rabbü’l-Âlemîn). He presents the universe as a vast Qur’an to be read line by line, and living beings — especially humans — as the heart and summary of that Qur’an.
===========
⏳THE QUANTUM THOUGHT ANALYSIS OF THE TEXT:
Bediuzzaman’s profound text completely transcends the particle-based, fragmented, and local model of the universe found in classical (Newtonian) physics. It offers a philosophical foundation that directly resonates with modern quantum mechanics, quantum holism, string theory, and fractal geometry.
When we examine the text from the perspective of quantum physics and modern cosmology, the following points of convergence appear:
📌1. Quantum Holism and Entanglement
The statement that a living being “is a small example of the universe… a drop or a point milked from all existences” is a complete definition of quantum holism.
📡Non-locality: In classical physics, objects exist independently in separate locations. In quantum mechanics the universe is understood as a single dynamic whole in which parts are continuously “entangled.”
📡Universal Distillation: Bediuzzaman’s description of a living being as a “drop milked from the universe” is analogous to the definition of particles in Quantum Field Theory (QFT). An electron or a living being is not an independent “thing” but a focal point where all quantum fields converge and condense.
📌2. The Holographic Principle
The sentences “God has embedded in that nucleus the exemplars of many worlds” and “embedding the program of the fig tree inside the fig seed” create a remarkable analogy with the Holographic Universe theory.
📡The Whole Hidden in the Part: No matter how small a piece you cut from a holographic plate, each fragment still contains the information of the entire image.
The text’s emphasis that a living being (nucleus/seed/human) is a small example of the universe expresses the holographic structure of reality: the cosmic information at the macro level is encoded within the micro level — in a particle or a living cell.
📌3. String Theory and the Concept of “Index” (Fihriste)
The observation that God “makes the honeybee an index for many things… and writes most of the issues of the Book of the Universe in the essence of man” points to a common information and vibrational matrix underlying everything.
In String Theory, all different particles and forces are actually vibrations of the same fundamental strings at different frequencies. The honeybee, the human being, and the stars are woven from the same cosmic fabric. The fact that a living being serves as an “index” for many things stems from this underlying unity of information and structure. Information is more fundamental than matter (John Wheeler’s “It from bit”).
📌4. The Observer Effect and the Heart as a “Window”
The statement that God “makes man’s heart an example and a window to thousands of worlds” can be radically linked to the quantum “Observer Effect.”
In the quantum world, particles exist as waves of probability (superposition) until they are observed. When an observer enters the system, the wave function collapses and potential becomes actual reality. The human heart (consciousness/soul) is an observational window opening onto the multidimensional probability waves of the universe. Through the human heart and consciousness, the universe becomes aware of itself.
In conclusion, while classical physics likens the universe to a giant clock or mechanical machine, Bediuzzaman portrays it in this text as an organic, holistic, information-based quantum web in which every point carries the information of the whole. The “seal of life” he speaks of is the signature of cosmic integration and absolute wholeness that quantum fields imprint upon the living being.
=====================
⏳THE STRING THEORY ANALYSIS OF THE TEXT:
When Bediuzzaman’s illuminating text is read through the lens of String Theory (and its overarching framework, M-Theory), the macro-micro relationship is taken to an entirely new dimension. The text transcends the rigid, independent, particle-centered matter of classical physics and shows deep ontological parallels with String Theory’s concepts of “common origin,” “extra dimensions,” and “holistic information.”
📌1. Distilled from a Single Energy Fabric: “A Drop Milked from All Existences”
The description of a living being as “a drop or a point milked from all existences” directly corresponds to String Theory’s view of matter.
All particles (quarks, electrons, etc.) are not independent structures but different frequency vibrations of one-dimensional, tiny, string-like loops of energy. Just as the strings of a violin produce different notes according to their vibration frequency, these fundamental strings produce quarks, electrons, photons, and ultimately living beings through different frequencies. A living being is not made of a substance independent from the rest of the universe; it is a compact focal point (a drop) where the same string matrix that forms stars and galaxies has condensed.
📌2. Extra Dimensions and Hidden Worlds: “Embedding the Exemplars of Many Worlds”
The expressions “God has embedded in that nucleus the exemplars of many worlds” and “making man’s heart an example and a window to thousands of worlds” offer a magnificent analogy with the concept of extra dimensions in String Theory.
String Theory mathematically demonstrates the existence of 6 or 7 additional spatial dimensions curled up at the Planck scale (in addition to our familiar 3 space + 1 time dimensions) — the so-called Calabi-Yau manifolds. When one descends to the smallest nucleus of matter, these geometric dimensions, which are invisible to us, contain the map of all the laws and parameters of the universe.
📌3. Universal Index and the Unity of Information: “Making the Honeybee an Index”
The emphasis on making the honeybee “an index for many things” and writing “most of the issues of the Book of the Universe in the essence of man” evokes the information-based structure of the theory.
According to String Theory the universe is not a mechanical pile but a cosmic symphony nourished from a single fundamental source. The fact that the honeybee serves as an index for the Book of the Universe means that its existential codes originate from the same string vibrations that govern the macro-cosmic laws (gravity, electromagnetism, nuclear forces). From the flight mechanics of the bee to the atomic arrangement in the pollen of a flower, everything is a different tonal expression of the same cosmic software. Information is already encoded in the geometry of the strings; the living being is the most organized and refined manifestation of these codes.
📌4. The Seal of Life: Absolute Cosmic Integration
String Theory’s greatest promise is to unite the four fundamental forces of physics under a single roof — a “Theory of Everything.”
Bediuzzaman’s “Seal of Life” is the ontological counterpart of this unifying theory. Life perfectly integrates everything from subatomic particle bonds (nuclear and electromagnetic forces) to the biological order and gravitational conditions of the macro world within a single organism. For even a tiny living being to exist, all quantum fluctuations and macro-cosmic balances must operate in perfect harmony simultaneously. This absolute integration is the signature and seal that the single Artist who holds all dimensions, all strings, and all forces in His hand has stamped upon the heart of the universe.
In summary, while classical physics tries to understand the universe by dividing it into parts, Bediuzzaman, like String Theory, defines the universe as a seamless web of energy and information nourished from a single source, existing in multiple dimensions, and carrying the information of the whole in every cell and every memory. “Life” is the brightest and most transparent nodal point of this cosmic web.
===============
THE FRACTAL GEOMETRY ANALYSIS OF THE TEXT:
Bediuzzaman’s text completely transcends the flat, smooth, and linear patterns of classical Euclidean geometry. It shows a magnificent philosophical and cosmological harmony with the principles of Fractal Geometry, which explains the intricate, self-repeating structures of nature, life, and the universe.
Fractal geometry, conceptualized by Benoit Mandelbrot in the 1970s, asserts that structures that appear irregular in nature actually contain an infinite order and mathematical pattern that repeats itself. When we read the text through this lens, the following fractal principles emerge:
📌1. The Principle of Self-Similarity
The fundamental rule of fractal geometry is that the smallest part of a shape carries the same geometric character and pattern as the whole (for example, a single leaf of a fern is a miniature copy of the entire plant).
The expression “a living being, by virtue of its comprehensiveness, is a small example of the universe, a beautiful and sweet fruit of the tree of the universe” is a precise definition of fractal self-similarity.
The sentence “God has embedded in that nucleus the exemplars of many worlds” shows that even the smallest loop of a fractal algorithm contains the main formula. The design of the macrocosm is embedded vertically within the microcosm.
📌2. Scaling and the “Fig Seed” Scale
Fractals preserve the same complexity and order no matter how much you zoom in or out. The scale changes, but the mathematical language remains the same.
Bediuzzaman’s observation that God “embeds the program of the fig tree inside the fig seed” is an excellent example of fractal scaling. When you enlarge the fig seed you encounter a vast tree; when you open the fruit of that tree you again find the same seed. This is mathematically identical to the Mandelbrot Set, which continuously generates the same fundamental motif under infinite zooming.
📌3. “Index” and Non-Linear Dynamics (Chaos & Order)
The statement that God makes the honeybee “an index for many things” and writes “most of the issues of the Book of the Universe in the essence of man” describes the patterned interconnectedness of everything in the universe.
In fractal geometry, behind complex systems (weather, coastlines, living organisms) lies a very simple iterative equation. The anatomy of the bee, the geometry of the honeycomb, and the universal order are all nourished from the same common mathematical index (fractal code).
📌4. Infinite Boundary, Finite Volume, and the “Heart Window”
Fractal structures (such as the Koch snowflake) have a finite area but an infinite perimeter. In other words, infinite depth and detail can be fitted into a finite volume.
The expression “making man’s heart an example and a window to thousands of worlds” explains this fractal paradox. A physically finite piece of flesh (the heart/consciousness) inside the ribcage possesses, through fractal deepening, a spiritual infinity capable of containing the geometric data, feeling, and perception of “thousands of worlds.”
In conclusion, while classical science sees the universe as a dull machine composed of smooth spheres, straight lines, and squares, Bediuzzaman reads the cosmos in this text as a dynamic, living, and magnificent “Cosmic Fractal” in which the same divine formula continuously folds upon itself from the smallest cell to the largest galaxy, and every part carries the signature (seal) of the whole. “Life” is the brightest geometric node where this fractal equation becomes visible in matter.

FIRST FLASH (LEM’A):
Observe: On the face of every created thing (masnû) there is such a stamp (sikke) that it belongs exclusively to the Creator (Hâlık) who brought everything into existence. And upon the forehead of every creature such a seal (hâtem) has been imprinted that no one other than the Artisan (Sâni) who made everything possesses that seal. And at the end of every letter published by Divine Power there is such an inimitable signature (turra) that it belongs only to the Eternal and Everlasting Sultan. Among such stamps, look only at the miraculous stamp (sikke-i i’câz) that shines upon life: through life, many things emerge and are created from a single thing. And many things also transform into one single thing by the Lord’s command. For example, while water is one single thing, by Allah’s permission it becomes the origin of many organs and mechanisms, and they are created. And from the many different foods and fruits that enter the stomach, the Exalted Creator creates a single body and brings forth a single body. Now, a person who possesses a heart, intellect, and consciousness, if he reflects upon this aspect, understands that bringing forth many things from one thing and transforming many things into one thing is a stamp that belongs exclusively to the Maker who created everything and made everything.
/Mesnevi-i Nuriye / Bediüzzaman
----------------------------------
This text, taken from Bediüzzaman Said Nursi’s Mesnevi-i Nuriye, describes in classical theological language the magnificent transformation between multiplicity (kesret) and unity (vahdet), along with the unique seal of creation imprinted on everything (sikke, hâtem, turra).
When we read this literary and theological text through the lens of the most advanced frontiers of modern physics and mathematics — Quantum Theory, String Theory, and Fractal Geometry — we discover fascinating parallels between the lines.
⏰1. ANALYSIS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF QUANTUM THEORY
“From One Thing, Many Things; From Many Things, One Thing”
The text’s statement — “Through life, many things emerge from a single thing… and many things also transform into one single thing by the divine command” — directly corresponds to the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics.
Quantum Superposition and Potential (From One Thing → Many Things):
In the quantum world, before observation, everything exists as a “probability wave” (a single source / wave function). This single wave function, at the moment of measurement (in the language of the text: by an act of will or command), collapses and manifests as countless different particle states — that is, “many things.” A single photon or electron simultaneously carrying multiple possibilities is a clear example.
Quantum Entanglement and Wholeness (From Many Things → One Thing):
Particles that appear completely different from one another are interconnected at the quantum level, and the universe as a whole can be described by a single wave function (the Wave Function of the Universe). The text’s example of “many different foods entering the stomach being created as one single body by the Creator” is a beautiful depiction of how diverse subatomic components (quarks, leptons) come together through quantum interactions to form a single macro-system (an organism).
⏰2. ANALYSIS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF STRING THEORY
The “Turra” (Signature) of the Universe and the Single Note
String Theory proposes that all the different particles in the universe (electrons, quarks, photons, etc.) are actually the different vibrational frequencies of tiny, one-dimensional strings folded upon themselves.
One Single String, Infinite Variety:
Just as a single violin string, vibrating at different frequencies, produces different notes such as Do, Re, Mi (many things), a single fundamental string, vibrating in different modes, gives rise to all the diversity of matter in the universe. The text’s expression “water, while being one single thing, becomes the source of many organs…” perfectly parallels String Theory’s claim that “a single fundamental building block (the string) is the origin of all universal organs and forms of matter.”
The Unimitable Turra (Signature):
The “inimitable turra” mentioned in the text can be likened to the geometric design that String Theory imposes upon the fabric of the universe. For the universe to exist, these strings must vibrate within 10- or 11-dimensional space in very specific geometric shapes known as Calabi-Yau manifolds. This micro-geometry is so precise and delicate that it constitutes an impossible-to-imitate or randomly occurring “COSMIC SIGNATURE” (Turra).
⏰3. ANALYSIS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF FRACTAL GEOMETRY
The “HÂTEM” (Seal) Hidden in Everything
Fractal geometry is based on the principle of self-similarity: as one examines the finer details of a form (moving toward the micro level), the pattern of the whole repeats itself according to the same mathematical rules.
The Signature of the Whole in the Part:
The text’s statement — “On the forehead of every creature such a seal has been imprinted…” — is a perfect definition of fractal structure. The vein pattern in a single leaf of a tree follows the same mathematical formula (fractal) as the overall branching structure of the tree. The vascular networks in the human body, the bronchi in the lungs, and river systems all operate according to the same fractal geometry.
Microcosm – Macrocosm Relationship:
Viewed through the fractal lens, the “design code of the entire universe (the seal)” is contained within “a single thing” (for example, a cell or a water molecule). The text’s mention of water becoming the source of many organs arises because the genetic and geometric codes within that water and cell carry the signature of the whole. The small part is a sealed copy of the large whole.
Summary Evaluation
The logical framework Bediüzzaman constructs in the text rests on the same philosophical foundation as modern physics’ search for a “Theory of Everything”:
{Multiplicity (Kesret)} \ {Unity (Vahdet)}
By giving examples of biological transformations in the macro world (water and foods turning into the body), the text actually draws attention to the unity of information and design at the deepest level of the universe. Quantum probabilities, the common vibration of strings, and the self-repeating seals of fractals can be read as modern “stamps” (sikke) that support, in the language of mathematics and physics, the thesis expressed in the text: “it belongs only to the Creator who created everything.”
-------------------
Bediüzzaman Said Nursi’s text from Mesnevi-i Nuriye, while containing profound theological and scientific truths, also opens a deep door directly to the heart of Tasawwuf: Wahdat al-Shuhud (the Unity of Witnessing), the manifestations of the Divine Names (Esma-i Husna), and the reality of the Cosmic Alif (the First Point).
When we analyze the text from the perspective of Tasawwufi gnosis (irfan), the following fundamental levels and concepts emerge:
1. The Secret of Kesret and Vahdet
Seeing Unity within Multiplicity, and Multiplicity within Unity)
The most fundamental quest of Tasawwuf is to reach the singular Reality (vahdet) behind the vast visible multiplicity (kesret).
From One Thing → Many Things (Descent from Vahdet to Kesret):
In Tasawwuf, the creation of the universe is explained by the sacred hadith: “I was a hidden treasure; I desired to be known” (Kenz-i Mahfi). The light that emanates from a single Source (the Essence) passes through the levels of Names and Attributes and flows into the visible world (âlam al-shahâda). The text’s statement “water, while being one single thing, becomes the source of many organs…” is a biological mirror of this divine descent (nuzûl) and manifestation. A single light has clothed itself in infinite forms.
From Many Things → One Thing (Ascent from Kesret to Vahdet):
The transformation of many different foods entering the stomach into one single body whispers of the spiritual traveler’s (sâlik) ascent from the world of multiplicity, stripping away veils until he reaches the station of seeing the Truth (Haqq) in everything (Tawhîd). Differences melt in the crucible of the One and, by melting, return to their Origin.
2. Sikke, Hâtem, and Turra: The Level of Divine Imprints
The text employs three different seal concepts: sikke, hâtem, and turra. In the terminology of Tasawwuf, these represent the layered manifestations of the Divine Names upon created beings.
3. “Life” and the Muhammadan Spirit (peace be upon him)
Bediüzzaman particularly highlights the radiance upon life: “Look at the miraculous stamp shining upon life…”
In Tasawwuf, Life is the direct manifestation of Allah’s Name al-Hayy (the Ever-Living), and it serves as the ground upon which all other attributes (Knowledge, Will, Power) can exist. Sufis refer to the first seed of creation as the Haqiqat al-Muhammadiyya or the Muhammadan Spirit. That primordial light (the “one thing”) is the seed of the entire tree of existence (the “many things”). Life instantly animates inanimate elements (earth, water, air), acting as the bridge from matter to meaning, from darkness to light. In this sense, life is the direct trace of the Divine Breath (Nafas al-Rahmânî) within matter.
4. Heart, Intellect, and Consciousness as the Mirror of Tawhid
The final paragraph of the text presents the Tasawwufi method of reflection: “Now, a person who possesses a heart, intellect, and consciousness, if he reflects upon this aspect, understands…”Tasawwuf is not mere dry reasoning (philosophy). Intellect and consciousness read the signs (âyât) in the external world (âfâq); however, it is the heart that confirms those seals and is filled with wonder. The heart is a mirror. When purified, it witnesses the “Divine Command” (Amr al-Rabbânî) and the embroideries of the Names al-Shâfî (the Healer), al-Razzâq (the Provider), and al-Bârî (the Maker) in the transformation of water into organs or food into a single body.
In Summary
Viewed through a Tasawwufi lens, this text gives a lesson in Tawhid to the dervish traveling the spiritual path (sayr-i sulûk) within the laboratory of the universe. When the Sufi looks at a morsel he eats or a drop of water he drinks, he does not see merely a biological process; he witnesses how the One (Ahad) Essence manifests in matter through the name al-Sâni (the Maker), how It transforms multiplicity into unity, and thus attains the secret of Lâ fâ’ile illallâh — “There is no true Agent other than Allah.”

“Exalted is His Majesty, and there is no God but Him. All praise belongs to Allah, is with Allah, is because of Allah, and is exclusive to Allah, in the number of tenths of the minutes of all time from eternity to eternity, multiplied by the particles of the universe from the beginning of the world to the end of creation. All praise belongs to Allah, in the number of revolutions of a circle in an infinitely continuous chain, for the sake of “Alhamdulillah” (Praise be to Allah).” / Tefekkürname / 29 Lem'a / Bediüzzaman
This text, taken from the section called TEFEKKÜRNAME within the 29th Lem'a (Twenty-Ninth Lem'a) by Master Bediüzzaman, is a masterpiece of Sufi contemplation centered entirely on TEVHID (the Oneness of God) and MARİFETULLAH (knowledge of God). The text reflects not merely a verbal expression of gratitude, but a state of AMAZEMENT and ISTİĞRAK (immersion in spiritual bliss) into which the heart and soul immerse themselves, witnessing the universe.
Here is an analysis of the text using Sufi concepts:
🎯1. THE PEAK OF MAJESTY AND ONENESS
Text: "HOW EXALTED IS HIS MAJESTY, AND THERE IS NO GOD BUT HIM."
✍️Sufi Analysis: The text begins with an emphasis on Allah's attribute of Majesty (Celal). Majesty means grandeur, greatness, wrath, and infinite power. The seeker (spiritual traveler) understands his own "NOTHINGNESS" in the face of Allah's majesty. This understanding leads him to the WORD OF ONENESS ("There is no god but Him") that immediately follows. In Sufism, the manifestation of majesty awakens fear and wonder in the servant, burning and destroying everything other than Allah in the heart, leaving only the Truth.
🎯2. A UNIVERSE-WIDE CHAIN OF PRAISE
Text: "FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD TO THE END OF CREATION, PRAISE EQUAL TO THE NUMBER OF ALL THE ATOM'S PARTICLES IN THE UNIVERSE..."
✍️Sufi Analysis: Bediuzzaman transforms praise (gratitude and commendation) from an individual act into a COSMIC ACT.
✍️Atoms of the Universe: Everything, from atoms to galaxies, praises and glorifies its Creator with its own silent language (its existence). The seeker joins this COUNICUM CHORUS through contemplation.
✍️The Encompassment of Time and Space: He equates the amount of praise to the multiplication of the smallest unit of time, the tenth of a second (or smaller units), with ALL THE ATOMS in the universe. This expresses that the blessings and perfections of Allah are infinite, beyond even divine counting ("by the multiplication of the number"). Faced with this infinity, the servant can only praise by confessing his helplessness.
🎯3. THE REALITY OF PRAISE: THE LEVELS OF "FANA AND BEKA"
Text: "...PRAISE COMES FROM ALLAH, HAPPENS WITH ALLAH, HAPPENS BECAUSE OF ALLAH, AND IS EXCLUSIVE TO ALLAH."
✍️Sufi Analysis: This sentence is the deepest part of the text from a Sufi perspective and describes the annihilation of the servant's will in the will of God (FANA-FILLAH) and then finding permanence with God (BEKA-BILLAH):
✍️It comes from Allah: Even the servant's desire and ability to praise is a blessing from Allah. The true "HAMID" (the one who praises) is Him.
✍️It happens with Allah (Billah): The servant can perform this praise not with his own strength, but with the strength and guidance given by Allah. At this level, the servant renounces his own power and strength.
It is for the sake of Allah (Lillah): The sole reason for praise is His essence, attributes, and names. No worldly or otherworldly benefit is considered.
✍️It is exclusively for Allah (Lillah): All praise, regardless of who it comes from or to whom it is directed, truly belongs only to the Glorious Being. Because He is the source of all perfection.
THE INFINITE CYCLE: PRAISE BETWEEN "ETERNITY AND INFINITY"
✍️Text: “‘PRAISE BE TO ALLAH FOR THE SAKE OF ‘ALHAMDULILLAH’ (Praise be to Allah), FOR THE NUMBER OF TIMES IN A CONTINUOUS CYCLE TOWARDS INFINITY.’”
Sufi Analysis: Here, the concepts of EZEL (beginninglessness) and EBED (infinity) are combined.
✍️The Circle and the Regression: A tongue that says "ALHAMDULILLAH" (Praise be to Allah) has received a blessing that necessitates repeated praise simply for being able to utter this word. EVERY PRAISE GIVES BIRTH TO A NEW PRAISE. This is an ENDLESS CYCLE OF GRATITUDE (the cycle of the circle).
✍️Footnote: The expression "infinite chain" in the text is not used in the sense of "IMPOSSIBLE INFINITE CHAIN" (teselsül-ü muhal) in Islamic theology, but is a spiritual description used to emphasize the infinity of divine blessings and the servant's debt of gratitude.
✍️Summary: The Seeker's Journey of Contemplation
In this text, Bediüzzaman takes the seeker from the movement of atoms to the depths of time, and from there to the infinity of divine attributes. On this journey, the servant:
Understands his own helplessness and poverty (nothingness) (Celâl).
Sees that the universe is a place of remembrance (ZİKİRHANE) praising God from beginning to end (Marifet).
Realizes that even his praise is a favor from God, and nullifies his PRIDE (Fena).
And finally, it connects to God (Beka) within an INFINITE CYCLE OF GRATITUDE AND WONDER.
This contemplative text, besides its classical Sufi depth, also offers striking parallels with the perspective of modern science, especially QUANTUM PHYSICS, on the universe.
When we examine this text under the heading "QUANTUM ANALYSIS," we can see how the concepts in the text coincide with the dynamics of the subatomic world and the holistic structure of the universe:
🎯1. "THE ATOM OF THE UNIVERSE": AN ANALOGY OF THE SUB-ATOMIC WORLD
✍️Text: "...ALL THE ATOM OF THE UNIVERSE..." (all the atoms of the universe)
✍️Quantum Physical Analysis: Bediuzzaman reduces praise to the smallest building blocks of the universe. Quantum physics shows us that matter is not as solid and static as it appears; atoms and subatomic particles (quarks, electrons) are in a constant state of VIBRATION, MOVEMENT, and spin.
✍️Quantum Interpretation: This constant movement and energy exchange is called "THE GLORIFICATION THROUGH THE LANGUAGE OF STATE" in Sufi terminology. From a quantum perspective, each particle, by its very existence and its orderly movement within the system to which it belongs, performs a kind of "COSMIC DANCE," proclaiming its Creator with praise as part of this holistic harmony. This dynamism at the deepest level of matter confirms that praise is not static, but an instantaneous and constantly renewing action.
🎯2. "THE TENTHS OF MINUTES": THE QUANTIFICATION OF TIME
✍️Text: "...AS MUCH AS THE MULTIPLICATION OF THE TENTHS OF ALL TIMES BY THE TENTHS OF MINUTES..." (as much as the multiplication by the smallest units of time)
✍️Quantum Physical Analysis: The text calculates the amount of praise by reference to the smallest particles of time. In classical physics, time is like a continuous (continuously flowing) river. However, quantum theory argues that time and space can also be "QUANTIFIED" (in discrete, packet-like forms), meaning that there are indivisible smallest units, such as "Planck time."
✍️Quantum Interpretation: Bediüzzaman's use of the term "ÂŞİRE" (a very small unit of a second) and multiplying it by the number of atoms connects praise to the number of instantaneous creations. In the quantum world, the state of a particle is "RENEWED" EVERY MOMENT. The praise of the servant is not merely a thankfulness for the past, but an instantaneous and infinite response to the new blessings created in the quantum packet of that "moment."
🎯3. THE INFINITE "CYCLE OF THE CIRCLE": ENTANGLEMENT AND THE HOLISTIC UNIVERSE
✍️Text: “‘BECAUSE OF ‘ALHAMDULILLAH’ (Praise be to Allah), AS MUCH AS THE CYCLE OF A CIRCLE IN A CONTINUOUS RECORD TOWARDS INFINITY...” (as many turns of a circle in an infinite cycle)
✍️Quantum Physical Analysis: This expression describes an infinite feedback loop where one act of praise gives rise to another. In quantum physics, the principle of "quantum entanglement" shows that particles in the universe can communicate and influence each other instantaneously, even when they are very far apart. THIS REVEALS THAT THE UNIVERSE IS NOT FRAGMENTED, BUT HOLISTIC (INTEGRAL) IN STRUCTURE.
✍️Quantum Interpretation: The seeker's saying "ALHAMDULILLAH" (Praise be to Allah) does not remain only in their inner world. THROUGH THE LANGUAGE OF QUANTUM ENTANGLEMENT, THIS PRAISE SPREADS TO THE ENTIRE HOLISTIC NETWORK OF THE UNIVERSE. THE CONTEMPLATION OF ONE SERVANT MOVES THE CHORUS OF ALL PARTICLES, AND THIS HARMONY RETURNS TO THE SERVANT. This "CYCLE OF THE CIRCLE" is a single act of gratitude in an entangled universe. IT EXPRESSES THE TRANSFORMATION INTO AN INFINITE CYCLE OF ECHO AND RESONANCE THAT ENCOMPASSES THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE.
🎯4. THE SOURCE OF PRAISE: THE FIELD THEORY OF "THE NECESSARY EXISTENCE"
Text: "...PRAISE COMES FROM ALLAH, HAPPENS WITH ALLAH, HAPPENS BECAUSE OF ALLAH, AND IS EXCLUSIVE TO ALLAH."
✍️Quantum Physical Analysis: Quantum field theory (QFT) states that particles are not fundamental, but rather the fundamental quantum fields (such as electromagnetic fields) that pervade the universe, and that particles are "EXCISIONS" within these fields.
✍️Quantum Interpretation: This Sufi phrase is like a metaphysical projection of the "FIELD-PARTICLE" relationship in quantum field theory. The ACT OF PRAISE (particle/excitation) does not originate from the servant; On the contrary, the source of that praise is the Creator's Essence and Attributes (Fundamental Field) through the "AREA" (MANIFESTATION) of FAITH AND REFLECTION in the heart of the seeker. The servant praises as a manifestation of that field; this praise is realized with that field (God) and ultimately returns to that field (God).
✍️Summary: A REFLECTIONARY TEXT IN QUANTUM LANGUAGE
In light of quantum analysis, this text shows that Bediuzzaman contemplates the universe not merely as atoms seen through a microscope, but as a cosmic masterpiece constantly recreated by the vibrations of the Creator's pen of power, woven with packets of time and space, with all particles entangled and floating within a single totality in the "AREA" (Field) of PRAISE. FOR A SERVANT TO SAY "ALHAMDULILLAH" (Praise be to Allah), IT IS MERELY TO JOIN THIS INFINITE AND ENERGETIC CHORUS WITH A CONSCIOUS "RESONANCE".
Examining this profoundly contemplative text through the lens of String Theory, one of the most ambitious and speculative theories of modern physics, adds new dimensions to the concepts of "Infinite Smallness" and "Cosmic Harmony."
String Theory analysis expands the text's understanding of Cosmic Praise from matter to energy, from geometry to music:
🎯1. "Particles of the Universe": From Point to String, From Matter to Music
✍️Text: "...All the particles of the universe..."
✍️Quantum/Standard Model: Quantum physics goes beyond the atom and considers fundamental particles (quarks, electrons) as "Point-based" entities.
✍️String Theory Analysis: String Theory delves deeper into these points and proposes that the fundamental building blocks are not points, but tiny VIBRATING ENERGY STRINGS (strands) of Planck length.
✍️String Theory Interpretation: Bediüzzaman's expression "ATMORD" (ZERRE) in light of String Theory refers not to a stationary particle, but to a CONTINUOUSLY VIBRATING UNIT OF ENERGY. Just as a guitar string vibrates at different frequencies to produce different notes (particle types: electron, quark, etc.), EVERY "ATMORD" IN THE UNIVERSE IS ACTUALLY A STRING VIBRATING WITH THE TOUCH OF DIVINE POWER. In this case, the UNIVERSE is not the collision of atoms, but a gigantic cosmic symphony formed by an infinite number of strings. The seeker's contemplation is to hear that each note in this symphony is "praise" (Hamd).
"He is in a state of creation at every moment" /Rahman-29
"The seven heavens, the earth, and everything in them glorify Allah. There is nothing that does not glorify Him, but you cannot understand their glorification." /Isra-44
🎯2. THE NUMBER OF PRAISE: THE INFINITY OF VIBRATION MODES
✍️Text: "...AS MUCH AS THE NUMBER OF... THE PARTICLES OF THE UNIVERSE..." (as much as the multiplication by the number of atoms)
✍️String Theory Analysis: In the standard model, the number of particles is limited (a few tens). However, in String Theory, there are an INFINITE NUMBER OF DIFFERENT MODES (FREQUENCIES) in which a string can vibrate. Each vibration mode corresponds to a potential particle with different mass and properties (but most are very high-energy).
✍️String Theory Interpretation: While Bediüzzaman connects the amount of praise to the number of atoms, String Theory does not limit this number only to the existing particles; IT ALSO INCLUDES THE INFINITE MODES OF VIBRATION THAT CAN EXIST. PRAISE IS NOT ONLY AS INFINITE AND DIVERSE AS THE PARTICLES OF THE PHYSICAL UNIVERSE, BUT ALSO AS INFINITE AND DIVERSE AS THE VIBRATIONS OF THE INFINITE NUMBER OF ENERGY POTENTIALS THAT CAN BE THE MANIFESTATION OF THE DIVINE NAMES.
🎯3. "THE REVOLUTION OF THE CIRCLE": EXTRA DIMENSIONS AND GEOMETRIC PRAISE
✍️Text: "...AS MUCH AS THE REVOLUTION OF A CIRCLE IN A CONTINUOUS ROTATION TOWARDS INFINITY..." (as many revolutions of a circle in an infinite cycle)
✍️String Theory Analysis: For its mathematics to be consistent, String Theory requires extra spatial dimensions (a total of 10 or 11 dimensions) beyond the 4-dimensional (3 space + 1 time) universe we know. These extra dimensions are in the form of geometric shapes (Calabi-Yau spaces) that are too small to be perceived in the macroscopic universe and are folded in on themselves. Strings vibrate within these complex geometric shapes.
✍️String Theory Interpretation: The phrase "THE REVOLUTION OF THE CIRCLE" in the text draws a surprising parallel with the geometric structure of these extra dimensions. Strings don't just move back and forth; they vibrate, twisting within these complex, constricted geometric "CIRCLES" and "CYCLES." PRAISE IS NOT A STATIC LINE, BUT A CIRCULAR AND CONTINUOUS (EACH OTHER GIVING BIRTH) FLOW OF ENERGY THAT ECHOES WITHIN THE COMPLEX GEOMETRY OF THESE EXTRA DIMENSIONS. THE DEEPEST GEOMETRY OF THE UNIVERSE WORKS LIKE A MECHANISM OF GRATITUDE THAT ROTATES WITHIN ITSELF.
🎯4. "IT COMES FROM ALLAH, IT HAPPENS WITH ALLAH": THE FUNDAMENTAL STRING AND THE SINGLE SOURCE
✍️Text: "...PRAISE COMES FROM ALLAH, IT HAPPENS WITH ALLAH..."
✍️String Theory Analysis: String Theory aims to unify all fundamental forces in nature (gravity, electromagnetism, nuclear forces) and ALL PARTICLES as different vibrations of a SINGLE FUNDAMENTAL ENTITY (STRING) (UNIFIED FIELD THEORY/THEORY OF EVERYTHING).
✍️String Theory Interpretation: This Sufi phrase is a metaphysical summary of the ultimate goal of String Theory. Praise (Hamd) is not the independent action of particles or of the servant. All diversity (different particles/different praises) originates in essence from a single 'string' (divine power/manifestation of divine names) (it comes from Allah), and it sustains its existence through the vibration of that singular source (it is with Allah). The universe is an infinitely varied song of oneness (Tawhid) played by a single string of power.
✍️Summary: A REFLECTION IN THE LANGUAGE OF STRING THEORY
In light of String Theory analysis, Bediuzzaman's text depicts the UNIVERSE not as a static mass of point-like particles, but as a cosmic "flute" woven from energy strings of the Planck scale, constantly vibrating with the touch of Divine power. Each hole (each particle and extra-dimensional geometry) of this flute blows notes of "praise" in an infinite frequency spectrum (in the cycle of successive circles). FOR THE SEEKER TO SAY "ALHAMDULILLAH" (Praise be to Allah) IS TO BECOME AWARE OF THIS COSMIC SYMPHONY AND TO BRING THE STRING OF HIS OWN SOUL INTO THE SAME RESONANCE (HARMONY) WITH THAT SINGLE AND ABSOLUTE SOURCE.
