The Rafah crossing is still closed. Every week, there are new rumors about dates, new promises that it might open “soon,” and every week those dates are pushed back again. For people outside Gaza, this might sound like a logistical delay. For people here, it means being trapped with no timeline and no alternative. Thousands of people are waiting, the injured, the sick, students, families who began the arduous and often expensive process of seeking evacuation. My own mother is among them. She needs medical treatment that cannot be provided inside Gaza, yet we remain stuck, watching weeks turn into months with no clear answers. This uncertainty is its own form of harm. You can’t plan. You can’t prepare. You can’t even grieve properly, because you’re always waiting for a call that never comes. Medical conditions worsen while paperwork sits idle. People grow weaker while borders stay shut. The crossing is the only exit for survival for many families. Every delay has consequences, and for many of us, those consequences are already being felt.
