This post doesn’t have an agenda, just thoughts I needed to put into words. Sometimes hearing other opinions helps me think more clearly, so here we go. Nonco Ducks once had one of the most active core groups in all of web3. And I say core because active members aren’t the same as NFT holders. Yes, it was 2021, NFTs were cool, but above everything , even speculation, there was fun. The Pond was special because it was fun. People loved matching traits, decoding lore, joining races, and just spending time together. Then my principles kicked in, maybe too strongly. I’ve always believed that projects without external revenue streams are, by definition, ponzis. The only way to win is to sell to another community member at the right time. So my focus shifted. Instead of chasing hype, I chased sustainability, creating real world ventures that could feed holders’ ambitions: first a game, then an influencer platform, then wine, bars, and now a CPG brand. Some succeeded, others didn’t. But the more I focused on utility, the less I focused on fun. The lore, the chaos, the magic that made Nonco unique… faded. Many holders still keep their Ducks, but they don’t feel like Ducks anymore. Some look back with nostalgia; a few of us still chat daily, still keep the spirit alive. And so the question comes back, and please, spare me the “it should be all things” answer. You can’t do everything. Not with limited resources and a small team. So I ask you Are you here for fun? For profit? For the tech? For the people? Should I go back and try to make Ducks fun again? I’m listening.
