1/2 💰 While pharma disclosed £929 million in payments to the UK health sector last year via #DisclosureUK, the medical device industry (including mesh makers) still operates in secrecy. No equivalent mandatory public register exists.
Baroness Cumberlege’s landmark #FirstDoNoHarm review (IMMDS) exposed exactly how this lack of transparency fuels harm:
The review specifically warned about conflicts of interest from undisclosed industry payments to doctors, hospitals, teaching institutions and researchers. It recommended mandatory reporting by both pharmaceutical AND medical device companies of all payments and benefits in kind — similar to the US Physician Payments Sunshine Act — and expanding the GMC register to include doctors’ financial interests

Yet this material is still being implanted.
The UK has not funded further long-term studies beyond 180 days, and the market continues to grow.
Patient safety must come before profit.
Full recognition, mandatory recall, and proper redress are now urgent.

I & the #MeshInjured community need someone to pick up the entire #MeshScandal & produce a docusoap akin to the Post Office scandal without which I think we're going to be left without redress, with multiple disabilities, autoimmune diseases & debt.

@JanUrban12 @myfight2beheard The #MeshScandal isn't just about over 10000 patients just in the UK harmed by a medical device. Those able to find one of a handful of surgeons willing to fully remove the device discovered their full removal wasn't, in fact, full.

Whilst governance, research & consultants have conflicts of interests that can influence their decisions, we can never be confident that licensing, data & consultants' treatment choices are unbiased & not based on their self interests.
Failure to heed this led to #MeshScandal.

The second #MeshScandal in which consultants told patients they were having a full removal of their mesh device but couldn't have done because the operation was conducted keyhole was well known about amongst consultants in the field.
@JamesTitcombe @ShaunLintern The MHRA havent learnt from their mistakes either given the #meshscandal seems to have jumped from pelvic mesh harm to harm caused by mesh used in breast implants.
Noone is held to account, and there are no repercussions following their mistakes. What motivates them to do better
