I was very pleased to co-organize, alongside @Sephardic_in_DC, a beautiful celebration of Mimouna in Washington, D.C. a moment where traditions meet and hearts open. More than a festivity, #Mimouna embodies the spirit of Moroccan identity: coexistence, friendship, and a shared heritage that brings Moroccan Jews, Muslims, and all communities closer together.
#Morocco’s #Mimouna celebration in #Washington served as a powerful reminder of the Kingdom’s long tradition of #Coexistence. Ambassador #YoussefAmrani said the Jewish post-#Passover feast reflects Moroccan values of tolerance, friendship, and harmony between religions and cultures.
The event also marked 250 years of diplomatic relations between #Morocco and the #UnitedStates, with Amrani recalling Morocco’s historic role as the first country to recognize American independence.
He also underscored reforms led by #KingMohammedVI to preserve Morocco’s plural identity, including constitutional recognition of the Hebraic component and the restoration of synagogues and cemeteries, reinforcing the Kingdom’s image as a model of #Interfaith coexistence.

When France fell and the Vichy regime was established, the lives of 415,000 North African Jews were thrown into turmoil as they became the new targets of antisemitic laws. Pétain’s regime didn't just target Jews in France; it exported its antisemitic agenda to North Africa. By imposing racial laws, the government systematically stripped Jews in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia of their rights and status.
