🎨 After 6 years, MakersPlace is shutting down! 🚪💔 One of the biggest names in NFTs is exiting the market, citing challenges in the crypto space. What does this mean for the future of digital art? 🤔💡 #NFT #DigitalArt #CryptoNews #MakersPlace #NFTCommunity #CryptoArt
#MakersPlace, a digital art platform specializing in #NFTs, is shutting down due to ongoing market challenges and funding difficulties.
The platform, launched in 2018, announced its closure on January 15, 2025, marking the end of its six-year operation. Despite the shutdown, users can still purchase NFTs until the platform completely closes, and a tool will be provided in February to allow users to transfer their NFTs until June 2025.

Next Actions for Artists & Collectors
After six years of serving and collaborating with artists and collectors, #MakersPlace has made the difficult decision to cease operations.
MakersPlace has made significant strides in enhancing its products and services to serve artists and collectors, firmly establishing its brand in the industry over the past few years even with the market in a prolonged downturn. Despite our existing runway, with these market conditions, we anticipate significant challenges in securing further investment which would make it difficult, if not impossible, to pursue our mission to champion digital art, sustain operations, and deliver meaningful returns to our shareholders.
After careful consideration of various strategic options, the board, founders, and company leadership have decided that ceasing operations is the best course of action for MakersPlace, our investors, and our employees. We will return unused cash to investors, provide fair severance packages to employees, and ensure a smooth wind-down of https://t.co/WLsdqIBemY. This is a difficult decision, but we believe it is the most prudent for our stakeholders.
Effective immediately, minting, token import, and new account creation on https://t.co/WLsdqIBemY are disabled. Artworks can still be purchased, but no new exhibitions — digital, at art fairs, or live events — will be launched.
We understand this transition will impact many artists and collectors. Our curators will personally reach out to artists scheduled for exhibitions to answer any questions, and our private sales team will assist key collectors with any inquiries.
Next Actions for Artists & Collectors
Artists and collectors need to transfer artworks that reside in MakersPlace’s custodial wallets (Safebox or older artist-specific custodial wallets) to their own wallets. Currently, manual transfers can be initiated through the “Send Artworks” option in your MakersPlace account but in February, we will introduce an upgraded artwork transfer feature on https://t.co/WLsdqIBemY to facilitate easier transfers.
Artwork purchases will cease upon this upgrade, with a transfer deadline extended through June, subject to further extensions if necessary. Note that since all NFTs on MakersPlace are minted on Ethereum, they remain tracked and accessible on secondary marketplaces.
Our support channels will remain available for assistance. All future updates will be shared only through our official X account. You can reach us at: [email protected]
We are actively seeking opportunities for an asset sale of the company and encourage interested parties to contact us.
Since 2018, we've proudly supported digital art and believe it will eventually become a significant part of the art market. Thank you for being part of our journey.
