One stage of marriage that almost nobody talks about is the BURNOUT STAGE. It's that season where you've been together for years, you've heard every story a hundred times, you know each other's routines by heart, there are no butterflies and life starts feeling predictable. The excitement that came naturally in the early years isn't there anymore. Conversations become shorter, sex and intimacy dissappear, you rarely go on dates and the marriage slowly starts becoming boring . Many couples become scared at this point because they think they have fallen out of love or they married the wrong person. The truth is, almost every long marriage goes through this stage. The danger is that during this season,you might meet someone new and they suddenly seem more exciting than your spouse. A new person laughs at your jokes, asks about your dreams, compliments you, and makes you feel noticed again. You begin comparing that fresh excitement to the comfort and boring routine at home without realizing you're comparing the beginning of one relationship to the middle of another. That comparison has destroyed many good marriages. The couples who survive this stage always have a long and happy marrriage. love was never designed to survive on feelings alone. Feelings come and go. What keeps a marriage alive is intentional effort. If you reach this stage, you have to start dating each other again, create new memories together, travel, try new hobbies, laugh more, communicate better, and become curious about each other again instead of assuming you already know your spouse. The burnout stage is not proof that your marriage is over. It's simply an invitation to stop living on autopilot and start choosing each other again. Sadly, many couples quit during this season.
