📌Hezbollah has ramped up its use of FPV drones, including sophisticated fibre-optic models, to target Israeli occupation's #Merkava tanks in southern Lebanon.
📌While these tanks are equipped with anti-drone cage armour ("cope cages") and the Iron Fist active protection system, Hezbollah's top-attack drone tactics have successfully penetrated some of these defences.

BATTLEFRONTS IGNITE
#Merkava Tanks Burning North of the #Litani
#Maydani Report || #Beirut — 30 May 2026
At precisely half past two on Friday afternoon, in a narrow patch on the outskirts of Yohmor al-Shaqif, the Islamic Resistance needed just ten minutes to settle the account of three Merkava tanks: three "Ababil" loitering drones dove in succession between 14:30 and 14:40, scoring confirmed hits. Ten minutes that distill the predicament of the region's mightiest army — a crushing superiority in firepower, air power and armor, broken on a weapon that costs no more than a smartphone.
This was no isolated incident, but the culmination of "combat days" marking the peak of three months of fighting, in which the Resistance managed three combat sectors at once through a tactic of elastic defense and an attritional, fire-based offensive effort — even as the enemy's prime minister stood at the border to declare that his army had "crossed the Litani to controlling positions." Yet between the declaration and the field, the gap only widens.
A "Yellow Zone," with eyes on the "Shaqif Heights"
Since the perforated ceasefire of 17 April, Tel Aviv has drawn what it calls the "Yellow Zone" — some 55 towns and sites, most of them in the districts of Tyre and Bint Jbeil and the border towns of Marjayoun, with an extension toward al-Taybeh, Deir Siryan and al-Qantara on the southern banks of the Litani. From this line, the Israeli army drew an arrow climbing toward the "Shaqif Heights" from Zawtar and Yohmor; whoever holds those heights commands Nabatieh by fire and reaps the "security depth" by which Netanyahu justifies his war to his public. For more than a month, the enemy has been trying to seize Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, adjacent to Deir Siryan — and for more than a month, it has failed.
The Western Sector: From Byout al-Sayyad to Haddatha "Over."
Along the coast and deep into the Bint Jbeil district, the enemy presses on the Bayyada–Byout al-Sayyad and Rashaf–Haddatha axes, only to be met with fire that denies it any foothold. In Haddatha — where its infantry tried to advance four times in previous days, losing bulldozers and tanks — the Resistance again detonated two IEDs on a D9 bulldozer and a military vehicle at "al-Birkeh" at dawn Thursday, then greeted an advancing column near the stadium at dawn Friday (00:05) with artillery shells, forcing it to retreat. In al-Bayyada — where the occupation has despaired of fixing a bridgehead toward "Byout al-Sayyad" — an "Ababil" drone struck technical equipment at 2:00 p.m., followed by a rocket salvo on a cluster of vehicles and troops at night (22:00). In Rashaf, a similar gathering was hit by a rocket salvo (17:15). The grip extended to the "far western coast," where "Ababil" struck an Iron Dome platform at Ras al-Naqoura (15:00) and a Humvee in al-Naqoura (15:30) — a repeated message that no depth is safe, not even at the shoreline.
The Heart of the Battle: From Deir Siryan to the Khazzan, with eyes on "Beaufort Castle"
Here the main Israeli effort is concentrated, along two arrows setting out from Deir Siryan: the first climbing toward Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, then Mazraat al-Hamra and the Khazzan (reservoir) point; the second toward Yohmor al-Shaqif and an attempt to flank upward toward the historic Beaufort Castle that overlooks the valley. In this sector, the harshest day for the enemy's armor was recorded.
Yohmor was the theater of the armor massacre: it began with a Merkava tank seen burning in the morning (08:50), then an IED that devoured a military vehicle at midday (13:30), then the central blow — three Merkavas in ten minutes by three "Ababil" drones (14:30–14:40), then a fourth tank east of the town hit by a guided missile in the evening (19:00), seen burning. Hours earlier, on Thursday evening, the Resistance had prepared the ground: a rocket salvo on the outskirts of Yohmor (17:00), then a loitering-drone swarm on the cluster of vehicles and troops in its center (17:20). On the Zawtar axis, the "river course" — the depression the enemy mistook for a safe corridor — remained an open kill zone: a rocket salvo at midnight Thursday (23:20), followed by a salvo on the adjacent square of al-Qantara (23:50).
As on every axis — and despite the edge afforded by the drones and guided missiles — the Resistance spared neither effort nor ordnance, but distributed roles and the fan of fires with the precision of an operational surgeon: the IED halts the vehicle and pins the column; the guided missile disables the tank along the line of sight; the loitering drone strikes from above, where neither "Trophy" nor armor offers protection; and the rocket salvo scatters the infantry and blankets the ground. Thus the coveted "bridgehead" turned into a trap, and the enemy remained unable to enter the residential quarters despite a month of attempts.
The Eastern Sector: The Khiam–Marjayoun–Dibbine Triangle
In the east, the enemy is trying to launch an operation to advance and seize the town of Dibbine from the Khiam–Marjayoun–Dibbine triangle — a town that has seen successive airstrikes and repeated clashes in recent weeks. On Friday, the Resistance answered by hunting a Merkava tank in the vicinity of Dibbine (19:05), seen burning, placing a giant question mark over the feasibility of any thrust along this rugged axis.
In parallel, the Resistance kept its supporting and deterrent fires burning across the border, in fulfillment of the equation of "paralyzing life in the entity": a loitering-drone swarm on the al-Malkiyya site and the "Yiftah" barracks (08:35), a swarm on a troop gathering near the "Netua" settlement (13:00), another on the newly established "Namer al-Jamal" site (13:20), and two drones on the "Galilee Forests" camp and an artillery position at "Khirbet Maar" (21:30). In other words, the war did not remain defensive at the contact line; it reached into the depth of the enemy's positions and gatherings.
The Hebrew Press: Attrition in the Language of Numbers
Israel officially admits the killing of 23 soldiers and four civilians since 2 March. It is the floor the military establishment concedes, yet it reveals a rising curve: in late March, as the incursion began, the declared figure was around ten — meaning the official toll has doubled as the ground maneuver deepened, and many consider it less than the reality given the policy of secrecy. This week, the occupation buried Sergeant Rotem Yanai, killed by a #Hezbollah drone in the north, in a funeral scene that has become recurrent.
More tellingly, the Hebrew press itself is dismantling its leadership's narrative: Maariv described the ground operation as having turned into a "shooting range," Haaretz warned against sinking once more into the "Lebanese quagmire," and — by some accounts — cast doubt on Netanyahu's figures for "Resistance dead," calling the claim of six hundred "laughable." On Channel 13, ministers' statements were branded "arrogant and empty," and Nadav Eyal (Yedioth Ahronoth) acknowledged the collapse of the "security-belt theory," while the command admitted it has no "effective operational response" to the optically guided drones. The gap between rhetoric and field peaked on Friday itself: while Netanyahu spoke of "controlling positions" north of the Litani, Reuters quoted Lebanese security sources saying the forces had crossed the river near Zawtar on Thursday, then withdrew to the southern bank the same day, and that Friday's crossing "was not a major advance" and took place at an eastern point close to the border (the point nearest the frontier, toward Metula, along the ground-operations track).
The Weapon Writing the Rules of Engagement
What binds the front's three sectors is a single weapon that changed the equation: the loitering drone guided by a fiber-optic cable. Cable guidance cancels the radio signal, so it cannot be jammed and its launch point cannot be located; its lightweight fiberglass body flies low with a near-zero signature; and its vertical dive bypasses the "Trophy" system designed for horizontal projectiles — to the point that the enemy has resorted to crude metal cages atop its tanks, and even fishermen's nets. The newest development is the addition of night/thermal vision to these drones, which has stripped the Israeli army of its nighttime superiority and turned the hours of darkness from a safe cover into a kill window. Netanyahu described this class of drones as "a global epidemic and a serious strategic threat" — a description that sums up the scale of the impotence.
On Friday, in a single day and across three sectors, the Resistance drew its equation: no ground is held without a heavy price, no tank advances without becoming a high-value target, no night provides cover, and no depth is safe. The "security depth" that Netanyahu pursues remains a goal easier to declare than to achieve, so long as securing it requires territorial control, safe supply lines, and a domestic capacity to absorb losses — conditions difficult to meet south of the Litani. So how could they ever be secured to its north?!
