I talked about that today on the Midrats podcast with @cdrsalamander and @lawofsea.
The waivers are indicating the need for more tonnage in the Jones Act fleet, along with the need for US-flagged ships in the international trade to support the Navy.
I testified to Congress that we need to discuss reform, but both sides, the pro and con do not like that position.
They either want it left untouched or repealed.
I have been involved in the maritime industry since graduating from NY Maritime in 1989 and the only thing the industry has done is decline. Colin will tell you it is because of the Jones Act.
I will tell you it is because of many factors and we need to address them all. Cabotage is not the magic formula that will fix everything by repealing it.
