Self-healing neutral X-site perovskite ferroelastic crystal―Hybrid perovskites and metal–organic frameworks (#MOFs) are typically studied as separate classes of materials. In an interesting report in @J_A_C_S, Chen, Liao, Xiong et al. describe a self-healing, neutral X-site #perovskite #ferroelastic crystal in which neutral pyrazine occupies the X-site position, in contrast to the anionic X-site found in conventional perovskites. This system undergoes two ferroelastic phase transitions. One of these transitions involves the reversible breaking of Ag⁺–N coordination bonds accompanied by the formation of weak Ag⁺···π interactions. This structural rearrangement enables #self-healing behavior, providing a mechanism that is distinct from previously reported self-healing processes in molecular crystals. Full article:
