@jessie21199111 This is very true. American content threatens that of Canadian content daily. We are surrounded by American tv shows, music and culture. Enforcing a quota of content from smaller countries allows for protection of that content. #MUNMUS2011
It is important to enforce a quota of Canadian content as it makes it easier for Canadian-born artists to be able to compete with the overwhelming American culture that encompasses us everyday. This would help protect and expand Canadian culture from being overlooked. #MUNMUS2011

I think a quota is a good idea when Canadian media and culture is so oversaturated with American content, but at the same time it may not make a difference when most listeners develop their tastes from other forms of media rather than radio (streaming, YouTube, etc.) #MUNMUS2011

Marianas Trench used to come to Newfoundland every year until 2017 when they got popular in the US. Suddenly Atlantic Canada isn't included #MUNMUS2011
#munmus2011 Canadian content will likely always need protection to ensure it is heard at all. Would I have have ever heard Bruce Cockburn, The Payolas, Minglewood and a slew of other great Cdn grown talent without cancon... likely not.

#MUNMUS2011 I do not agree with Walds assessment, as someone who loves live music, covers of popular songs are often better when covered or are live. However enviromental factors can play a huge factor, for example a concert or live performance!
#MUNMUS2011 I think the shift from covers to original playback has more to do with technological advancement in audio playback than the Beatles choice to suspend live performances in 1966. Live music simply isn't as accessible as the content on my iPhone.
#MUNMUS2011 I think fewer acoustic covers are producing because the lyrics and the body of the song would is just not enough for someone to listen to it.
#MUNMUS2011 I agree with Wald's point. As someone who hears the same 10 songs on repeat on the radio at work. The music is not so much about the lyrics and sounds, it seems to be about getting the next biggest trend out so they can make money. Modern Pop seems to be the way.
#MUNMUS2011 Waldโs opinion is interesting but I donโt necessarily agree with all of it. Itโs a stretch to blame the Beatles for the shift in music and culture that led to the prevalence of records over live music.
#munmus2011 I would agree with Wald's statement. I think young people get really use to the way a certain recording sounds If the original artist adds lib in a certain spot, that might be someones favorite part of the song, and they miss that part if a cover is different.

#MUNMUS2011 Waldโs assessment applies to some music but not all. A live cover is as good as the musician covering it. Sometimes the cover can be highly enjoyable and comparable to the original. Other times the original is more enjoyable and canโt matched.
@kboliver12 Same here!! I would much rather experience the live atmosphere in bars such as Rob Roy over the โelectro-techโ remixes in clubs such as Dusk. In my opinion, performers can interact and connect with their audiences during live performances in a way which DJโs cannot. #MUNMUS2011
