#MUS2011F20 There is a rise of personal streaming accounts(listeners can select who they listen to). Streaming platforms like radio stations, the listener doesn’t have choice of music, only genre.Enforcing Canadian content should be necessary to support local home grown artists.
#mus2011f20 I feel like having a quota for Canadian content is important. It seems like American content outweighs the amount of Canadian content, and this quota would be beneficial to Canadian artists like @Drake, and especially less mainstream artists like @justinbieber
I agree that it is necessary to enforce a quota of Canadian music content, particularly on radio stations, as this will give Canadian artists increased exposure and international success. These artists often lack sufficient resources or an audience to become noticed. #MUS2011F20
@DaniyalMumtaz An excellent point. However, I believe in 20-30 years that demographic will be significantly lower due to the aging population being more tech savvy. #mus2011f20
@DaniyalMumtaz Most Canadian artists who are currently known globally are Pop or Rap artists, which are both very popular genres today. I think enforcing a quota would help artists of other genres, as they do not receive the air time like artists of these popular genres. #mus2011f20
#MUS2011F20 I do believe it is necessary to enforce a quota on Canadian content. This helps Canadians to discover and listen to Canadian artists, without this quota many would go unheard and undiscovered. The quota helps to build a strong culture surrounding Canadian music.
@FowlowLuke This is a strong argument. Although I agree with a quota I also want to hear the best possible product. I think a happy medium does exist where Canadian artists have dedicated stations/channels and we can still access the “best” product on other channels with no quota #MUS2011F20
I believe it is necessary to enforce a quota on Canadian content. Although there are many Canadian-born stars in the music industry, a quota creates an avenue for small artists in the country to have an audience. This could lead to these artists being discovered #MUS2011F20
@JakeHoskinsMUN I’m sorry but I disagree. So an artist writing, producing and recording an original billboard charting song requires less skill than an artist/cover band performing the same song?? This ignores the entire creative process and what I believe defines an artist. #MUS2011F20
#mus2011f20 2/2 Especially during a pandemic. Although live performances can be fun, I think it is a matter of preference.
#mus2011f20 1/2 I agree with Wald's assessment. Having access to music on multiple devices is much more convenient and enjoyable than attending a live performance. I would much rather go for a drive and blast music in my car with boosted bass than go to a live concert,
I somewhat agree with Wald’s statement. Some may enjoy listening to a certain version of their favourite song rather than a live cover. However I feel it is not fair to make such a general statement about all present day pop fans as not everybody feels the same #mus2011f20
@HulanColin Do you believe that there is more value to just listening to the recordings or hearing live interpretations of the recorded music? #mus2011f20
2/2 on George Street are always a fun way to spend the night, but nothing beats being able to listen to the original whenever you want. #mus2011f20
#mus2011f20 I think that by creating and producing a record gives the listener a better experience when listening to music simply because the quality is better; however, I think that this give people a more exciting experience when listening to an artist live. Agree & disagree.
@mckeown_emilie I agree with this point! I believe that atmosphere that is created while down on George Street is unbelievable. We often hear great covers of some well known songs which brings a sense of unity and involvement to those around, which recorded songs often do not. #MUS2011F20
@ItsJustZev I agree Zev! I think it’s difficult to compare the two in today’s day in age. I listen to music for hours every day on streaming platforms but going out to listen to live music, especially a cover band would be more of an event to see friends and socialize for me. #mus2011f20
@McGrath_14 I completely agree, I think live music provides an atmosphere that recorded music simply cannot. The authenticity of performing one's music in real time can't be overlooked as many modern artists are unable to provide a decent live performance. #MUS2011F20
@BKrilow But would a cover band not be more authentic (assuming they are a good one) as you can experience their performance live rather than a doctored and enhanced version of the music? #MUS2011F20
@SheldonRyan1 @McGrath_14 One thing I find that live music overlooks is the important work of engineers and producers. When listening to a record you can hear every detail producers added to the song. I believe this amount of detail and credit to producers is lost with live shows #MUS2011F20
