@NewsLitProject A7: It does no good to vilify the press as a whole. It is better to collect a cadre of trusted resources and do your homework. This means going beyond your natural biases, and actually comparing sources. #NLPChat
A7: Read the founding fathers. Jefferson said, “I am...for freedom of the press, and against all violations of the constitution to silence by force and not by reason the complaints or criticisms, just or unjust, of our citizens against the conduct of their agents.” #NLPChat
@mjroquet Agreed. There are great resources of news and journalism is alive and essential. We can't teach our kids to be so cynical and to say it's all garbage. We can't act like we are judging them from our news literacy thrones. We must be empathetic and kind in this process. #nlpchat

@jakelam2116 That emotional factor is a huge thing to teach our students. I recently had a thing that I was very mad about and I have to tell myself to not get on Twitter and rant. We need to teach those internal emotional filters as well as a critical eye. #NLPChat

@NewsLitProject A5: Checkology! Seriously, it has made teaching news literacy so much easier along with the other NLP resources. I like the pre and post assessments so I can track student growth and know which topics I might need to spend more time on. #NLPChat
@adrianachavira @mjroquet Yes!! and how do we know who is getting paid to shill the products they share. It's not always a discernable ad. the social media we consume is confusing ... probably intentionally. #nlpchat
