It appears that the Indian government's inquiry committee and action against Vikas Yadav have only emboldened the Biden administration to up the ante. The US hid from India its arrest warrant against Yadav, leading to the inquiry committee visiting Washington. Though Yadav was fired from his job, the indictment lists him as an Indian government employee, with the FBI telling media that he is an intelligence officer who worked with Nikhil Gupta and others in India to “direct a plot to assassinate” Pannun, an India-designated terrorist. New Delhi's attempt to work with Washington may have fallen flat but it stands in stark contrast to the way the US in the past refused to cooperate on the far more serious cases involving Rattan Sehgal (the Intelligence Bureau's additional director who was caught spying for America) and Rabinder Singh, a R&AW officer recruited by the CIA, which eventually whisked him off to the US to prevent his arrest. Nearly 16 years after India's 9/11, the Mumbai Massacre of 166 civilians, the US has still not acted on India's extradition request for David Coleman Headley, who in 2013 was sentenced by a US court to 35 years in prison for his role in that terrorist attack. Many have speculated that Headley was a double agent working for US agencies and Pakistan's ISI, which may well explain the American reluctance to extradite him to India.
