🚨 #NAB vs #ING — Same #RBA Hike, Two Different Conclusions
Both banks agree that the #RBA delivered a hawkish 25bp hike to 4.60%.
But they disagree on what comes next.
#NAB believes rates have probably peaked. The #RBA has already delivered 100bp of tightening, housing is weakening and the economy is slowing. It expects the Bank to wait unless inflation brings more bad news.
#ING expects one final 25bp hike in Q4. Labour conditions remain too tight, demand still exceeds supply and inflation has made limited progress.
A sharp fall in #oilprices could stop that final hike.
Conclusion: Today’s rate increase was never the real question. The key question is whether 4.60% is the peak.
Persistent underlying inflation and high oil would support #ING’s view. Weaker employment, housing and activity would support #NAB.
That disagreement—not today’s hike—will drive the next important #AUD move.

🚨 #NAB — A Hawkish Hike Is Not a Promise of More Hikes
The #RBA unanimously raised rates by 25bp to 4.60%.
Its statement kept the door open to further tightening, citing energy costs, technology prices and domestic capacity pressures.
But Governor Bullock repeatedly stressed that the #RBA still wants to bring inflation down while protecting the labour market. She also wants time to see how the 100bp of hikes already delivered affect the economy.
Housing is weakening, unemployment has risen and recent activity data have softened.
#NAB therefore keeps 4.60% as its expected peak, although another hike remains possible if inflation brings more bad news.
Conclusion: The #RBA used hawkish language to preserve flexibility, not to promise another hike.
#AUD support could fade if markets conclude that today’s move marked the peak. From here, the data matter more than the words.
As we prepare to celebrate 60 years of independence, is important that we also recognize, preserve and celebrate our different and very unique cultural heritage.

#NAB — The #RBA Could Finish Hiking and Start Cutting Before Its Peers
When Australian rates were last at 4.35%, they were near the bottom of the G10 range. Today, they are near the top.
The #RBA is expected to hike to 4.60% tomorrow. NAB also sees a meaningful risk of another increase in November. But Australia is not the US.
Unemployment is gradually rising, business margins are deteriorating, house prices are falling and growth signals are less convincing.
#NAB argues that if the #RBA delivers the tightening currently priced by markets, it may eventually be able to cut rates before other G10 central banks.
Markets are not pricing a significant Australian easing cycle.
Conclusion: The next #RBA hikes can support #AUD in the short term.
But the medium-term risk is the opposite: #Australia may finish tightening first—and then become one of the first #centralbanks forced to reverse.
