SITUATION UPDATE (0540 HRS) #NATIONWIDE
#TWINCITIES
In Islamabad, traffic is flowing smoothly on major roads, including the Islamabad Expressway and Srinagar Highway. However, partial access restrictions remain in effect within the Red Zone, where entry is currently permitted only via Margalla Road, the Marriott Corridor, and the Serena Corridor, while ongoing construction at the Margalla Enclave Underpass on Park Road continues to cause traffic diversions and intermittent congestion on nearby routes. Meanwhile, enhanced security measures are expected today at Serena Hotel during the official visit of the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), with additional visits to other major hotels and potential venues also possible as part of ongoing assessments and coordination; motorists may experience temporary traffic disruptions in the vicinity of these locations. In Rawalpindi, traffic flow remains normal on all major road networks across the city, with no major disruptions reported. However, due to ongoing development works, traffic from Qasim Market towards Golra Mor has been diverted onto the service road, resulting in single-lane movement and localised congestion at Qasim Market Chowk and the Race Course turn points. Meanwhile, in Murree, traffic diversions will remain in effect on the Murree GT Road from the 17 Mile Toll Plaza until 20 July 2026 due to ongoing road maintenance. Consequently, travellers from Islamabad towards Murree and Nathia Gali are advised to use the Murree Expressway or other designated alternate routes.

In Lahore, traffic flow remains generally smooth across the city's major road network, and no protest activity has been reported at the time of reporting. However, localised traffic congestion and diversions continue due to ongoing road construction and sewerage development works at several locations, including Dharampura Phatak to Saddar Gol Chakkar, Data Darbar, Nila Gumbad near King Edward Medical University, Lakshmi Chowk to Brandreth Road, Saddar Gol Chakkar to Zarar Shaheed Road, and Gajju Mata Metro Station towards Nishtar. Additionally, Jain Mandir Road near Old Anarkali will remain closed from 0900 hrs to 0200 hrs every Thursday to Sunday to traffic due to a Muharram Majlis until 11 Rabiulawal, 24 August 2026.

However, congestion is expected during peak commuting hours on Shahrah-e-Faisal, University Road, and adjoining routes. Additionally, ongoing development and road carpeting works at SM Taufiq Road beneath Teen Hatti Bridge towards Dakkhana Chowk, the Hasan Square Underpass, Main Shamshir Road from Saba Shamshir towards 29th Street and multiple sections of University Road, including from Bait-ul-Mukarram Mosque to NIPA, the carriageway on Gaddafi Bridge towards Younus Chowrangi and from Samama Shopping Centre to Sheikh Zayed University, may cause lane restrictions, slow traffic movement, and localized delays. Heightened security measures at key locations may also contribute to localised traffic slowdowns and intermittent delays.

In Peshawar, traffic movement remains normal on major roads, including Khyber Road, University Road, and Warsak Road, while security measures continue around sensitive installations and key locations as authorities monitor the regional security environment. However, travel disruptions are expected to persist due to landslide- and flash flood-related road damage on the N-50 Zhob–Dera Ismail Khan National Highway near Sarah Khawara. Additionally, a fresh westerly wave is expected to bring moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms to parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this week, increasing the risk of flash flooding and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in vulnerable northern areas.

In Quetta, traffic flow on major routes remains generally normal. However, night-time traffic restrictions continue to remain in effect on the N-65 Bolan Section Highway between 1800 HRS and 0500 HRS to ensure commuter safety. Additionally, Section 144 has been imposed across Kech District (Turbat) for 30 days (until 30 July 2026) due to the prevailing security situation, prohibiting all political gatherings, public meetings, rallies, and the public display of weapons. The Kohla Phatak Flyover has reopened to traffic despite the ongoing Quetta/Ziarat tragedy sit-in, with traffic movement resuming on the flyover while the protest continues at the site. Moreover, the all-parties alliance and the sit-in committee have announced that the sit-in will continue until further notice, with province-wide protest demonstrations scheduled: women- and children-led protest on 16 July 2026, and a province-wide shutter-down strike across Balochistan on 17 July 2026, which may result in traffic disruptions. Separately, an IED blast damaged a bridge on the Quetta–Karachi National Highway near Mashallah Hotel in Mastung District, which may affect traffic movement in the area.
