North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein (D) castigated the state’s election board for setting strict new rules for mail voting that are leading to thousands of ballot rejections. https://t.co/8AHmEBeS6t
Biggest take away from this article:
Absentee ballot requests are down 32% from 2022. 😱

@DeLoach_NC or
it’s quite possible you can cure the ballot you cast depending on the error
Remember to sign you ballot
have to actual witnesses with readable print
seal your ballot in the proper envelope
and put a copy of your idea in the sleeve as shown #ncpol #ncga
North Carolina!! If you voted by mail, go to https://t.co/MsAYxX8dE5 to track whether your ballot was rejected over minor technical issues. If it was, you can still vote in person!
The State Board of Elections’ last-minute changes to voting by mail are leading to thousands more absentee ballots being rejected this election - at a rejection rate twice as high as in 2022. It’s infuriating. North Carolinians, please make a plan to vote this year, in person if possible. And if you’re voting by mail, make sure you seal both envelopes on your ballot. Don’t let them take away your vote.
i think you missed the story line - the massive reduction in Sunday voting (2022 23 counties down to 7 last weekend) angered black voters across the state and likely contributed to big statewide increases in black voter turnout. Meanwhile denying requests for sites at NC A&T and UNC-G because they had never had a mid-term site at the SAME meeting a site was added in Stokesdale which had never had a mid-term site contributed to hundreds of students marching 30 minutes to vote capturing the attention of the state and nation
Nor did any of the early voting plans passed lead to voter suppression but an expansion of opportunities that voters are using #ncpol @donaldbryson #ncga
North Carolina critics of #voterID argued for years that requiring identification at the polls would suppress turnout and that Black voters, in particular, would be disproportionately affected.
North Carolina’s early-voting data are telling a very different story.
Through the first six comparable days of early voting:
2022
• 621,400 total ballots
• 117,084 ballots cast by Black voters
2026
• 890,410 total ballots - up 43%
• 206,152 ballots cast by Black voters - up 76%
Black voters made up about 18.8% of ballots cast at this point in 2022. In 2026, they account for about 23.2%.
Those numbers do not fit the prediction that voter ID would broadly suppress turnout, much less disproportionately suppress Black turnout.
Voter ID and robust voter participation are not mutually exclusive. North Carolina is demonstrating that in real time. #ncpol
