Lovely day at the Hythe Of Activity Community day at the weekend - met old friends, shared all things #NewForest, #NewForestCode & local @newforestdc #GreenWay walking routes.
Finished the day patroling Dibden Inclosure & saw my first Autumn lady's tresses orchids of the season💚
Our rangers visited 145 locations across the National Park in August sharing with more than 4,000 people how they can help care for the Forest.
From Bolton’s Bench to East Boldre, the team highlighted the importance of following the #NewForestCode and adhering to Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) which ban people from petting and feeding Commoners’ ponies, as well as using bbqs and flames in the open countryside to reduce the threat of wildfires.
August highlights included:
🚒 Supporting Forestry England and emergency services’ response to a heathland wildfire, appearing in media interviews sharing safety messages and highlighting the impact of the incident
🐦 Co-ordinating patrols to support rare ground nesting birds and fire safety, protecting the habitats and wildlife that call the National Park home
🏪 Visiting businesses following the fire to offer guidance and support, with many traders and campsites encouraging safer driving in the Forest and backing efforts to ban open flames during the heightened wildfire alert status
👪 Attending family-friendly events including Lepe Wildlife Wonders and Burley Fair, sharing enthusiasm and knowledge about the Forest’s special nature with the next generation
Recorded a couple of days ago, sharing now because although there has finally been a bit of the wet stuff, the plants & peat soils of the #NewForest are still tinder dry & will remain that way for sometime (& some rain) to come 🔥

New Forest NPA rangers spent time with more than 1,550 people in July while out in the National Park, speaking about the importance of visiting responsibly and always following the #NewForestCode to help wildlife and habitats thrive.
From Ashurst to Beaulieu Heath, the team spent 157 hours at 54 locations working with partners, campsites, young people, and recreational visitors, went on wildlife patrols, and attended community events.
July highlights included:
🐦 Engaging with members of the public while on wildlife patrols and when visiting campsites, helping everybody enjoy their time in the Forest responsibly
🍃 Spending time with young people at schools, fairs, and on work experience and Duke of Edinburgh to grow enthusiasm and knowledge about the National Park’s special nature
🐴 Speaking to businesses in Beaulieu and Lyndhurst raising awareness of Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) in place to prevent fires and pony petting or feeding #KeepYourDistsnace
��� Supporting events including the New Forest Thrive festival, Burley Fair, and Fordingbridge Park Festival spreading messages about how we can all care for the New Forest
🚓 Joining partners including the police, Forestry England, and New Forest Dog Owners Group for car park surgeries and on #OpMountie to promote responsible dog walking and help make Forest roads safer

Rangers from the New Forest NPA spent nearly 160 hours at sites across the National Park in April and spoke to more than 1,200 people.
They discussed the importance of always following the #NewForestCode, PSPOs, and why we should all #KeepToTheTracks to help protect rare and special species like ground nesting birds.
From Brockenhurst to Hatchet Pond, Picket Post to Telegraph Hill, NPA rangers worked closely with partner organisations and shared knowledge about the National Park and how we can all support its wildlife.
The team also enjoyed spotting a number of firsts for the year as warmer weather arrives, including counting bluebells, glimpsing green hairstreak and painted lady butterflies, and seeing the Forest's canopy becoming greener.
April highlights included:
👮 Joining partner organisations in the Forest including on #OpMountie to help make the National Park’s roads safer
🤠 Undertaking ground nesting bird patrols supporting rare and special species in the Forest
💬 Giving talks to school and college pupils to share knowledge and enthusiasm for the New Forest
🚲 Supporting partners with bike marking at events to increase security for riders cycling responsibly
