LADY UPDATE: A new mom, a new paw, a new brother, a new life ♥️
Speaking to Amy about her beautiful family has been the heartwarming pick me up we all needed this chilly January. Remember Lady, brought in to #OperationSato off the streets? It goes against our policy to bring stray satos into our program from our TNR (trap, spay/neuter, release) events, because the majority of the strays brought in are feral, and we MUST stay committed to TNR as a systemic solution to fight the overpopulation crisis in Puerto Rico.
But sometimes, very rarely, Christina Beckles makes an exception. (As the President/Founder, she gets to do that! 😅)
When Chrissy saw Lady brought in off the streets to our clinic, her heart shattered. Lady was born without one of her paws, a “deformity” that probably led to her being dumped by whoever was breeding her mother for profit. Left to fend for herself on the streets with a disability, Lady didn’t have a very good chance of survival. Chrissy knew this gentle, unconditionally loving soul needed a second chance. She took Lady into our program, and not long after, we found her the perfect mom.
Thanks to a generous offer from Joey’s Paw, Lady was gifted a beautiful prosthetic paw from Specialized Pet Solutions to help with her mobility. When we caught up with Amy, she told us Lady was doing amazingly well. Unfortunately, part of the reason Amy wanted to adopt was because she lost her senior dog not long before. And tragically, a few months after Lady was brought home, her other dog passed. In her grief, Amy decided to get Lady a little brother, adopting a beautiful boy named Tru locally in Virginia. She said, “Selma (Lady’s new name) has taken on the role of big sis so well.”
We are thrilled for Amy, Selma, and Tru. This pack didn’t exist at the start of 2025. Now, one year later, so many puzzle pieces have come together to make a family portrait no one could have dreamt of.
Thank you again to Joey’s Paw for covering the cost of the prosthesis, and to Chrissy for seeing the potential in this little lady ♥️ we wouldnt have this update without all of you.
Happy life, Amy, Selma, and Tru! #SatoStrong

Roymar is up at dawn to feed them every day.
They’re protected from pregnancies and the transmission of disease.
Because of Roymar and our generous donors, these stray dogs have the best possible chance at a life of safety and dignity. A humane existence.
Our #OperationSato program helps packs of community dogs like these every single day. Since the inception of the program in 2023, we’ve spayed/neutered and vaccinated 5,000 dogs - that’s an average of 7 dogs per day. And we’re not stopping anytime soon. But we need your help.
Making a MATCHED donation today could help us treat thousands more.

There’s a way to give these satos a dignified, healthy life.
It’s TNR (trap, spay/neuter, release) and it’s a huge focus of our mission.
An estimated 650,000 stray dogs currently roam the streets of Puerto Rico. Our #OperationSato program seeks to provide as many stray satos as possible with $650+ worth of veterinary care, including sterilization and vaccinations.
When we post pictures like these, many are quick to comment things like, “but they look friendly!” And, “can’t you go rescue them?”

The Sato Project staff were on site this morning at Barrio Aguacate in Yabucoa 🙌 We gave away 22 vouchers for our #OperationSato program!
Each #OperationSato voucher provides your dog with:
-sterilization under anesthesia
-testing for blood-borne illnesses
-preventative medications
-vaccination against communicable disease
-pain management meds & antibiotics
A package worth in excess of $650, COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE.
We couldn’t make it any easier for you to keep your sato healthy and safe. The ONLY humane way to address this overpopulation crisis is with mass spay/neuter and vaccination.
If you have questions about our program, or want to schedule an appointment, please email us at [email protected] 🙏♥️ #SatoStrong #spayandneuter

SEND SUPPLIES DIRECTLY TO PUERTO RICO!
https://t.co/wy3VwkuuTQ
We’re making it easier than ever for our #SatoStrong community to pitch in and fight back alongside us. Our #OperationSato Amazon Wishlist has been updated with new items we desperately need to keep delivering these surgeries and vaccinations to the owned and stray dogs of Puerto Rico, completely free of cost to owners and feeding route caretakers. It just takes a few clicks to send crucial medical supplies directly to the island, where they’ll be immediately put to use serving sato patients like this one!
Some of the options on our list include:
🧤surgical gloves, for hygienic and safe procedures
🧻paper towels, to keep our spaces clean
💳Visa gift cards, to purchase snacks, water, and other important items to keep our vets, tech, and staff hydrated and fueled during their 12-14 hour days
And more!

It’s time to be blunt: most of the 650,000 stray dogs on the island of Puerto Rico will not end up in homes. There simply aren’t more than half a million families ready and willing to adopt. But through our #OperationSato program, we can reduce suffering and improve quality of life for as many of these precious pups as possible, by removing them from the overpopulation and disease transmission cycle. With TNR (trap, spay/neuter, vaccinate, release), satos like this one can be freed from endless pregnancies, and hundreds of thousands of puppies across generations don’t have to come into the world needlessly. Feeding route caretakers can provide fresh water and food to dogs in the community and monitor their health.
It’s our one-two punch approach to rescue: yes, we adopt out hundreds of satos per year. But we also provide free $650 worth of free medical services to THOUSANDS of satos per year, to address the problem from the root. Since our first #OperationSato event we have given away close to $3 million in vetting services, entirely funded by donations from our incredible supporters. And we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. The only other alternative is mass euthanasia - and to us, that is unacceptable.
We cannot rescue our way out of this. But we can fight a systemic problem with a systemic, humane solution. That’s the side of history you will always find us on. #SatoStrong

As we prepare to load up for another incredible #FreedomFlight tonight, we can’t forget to wish our fearless leader Chrissy a very happy birthday! Last year on her birthday she was running an #OperationSato event, and this year she’s loading up just under 100 satos and gatos to fly to their new forever homes 🙌♥️ and we know she wouldn’t have it any other way!

Several months ago, we helped a man in Las Piedras spay/neuter/vaccinate his 23 dogs. So when we got the call that a family in Cidra had 40 dogs on their property that needed our help, we knew our #OperationSato program was exactly what they needed. And what we found when we got to Cidra was very familiar: passionate animal lovers who couldn’t afford the veterinary resources they needed to keep their dogs safe.
So many individuals and families in Puerto Rico love the satos and want them to be happy, safe, and healthy. Though some abuse, neglect, and abandon these dogs - and while the government has made it clear they’d rather opt for mass euthanasia than humane solutions for population control - we get messages from hundreds of people every day asking for help with rehabilitation and rescue, because they too hate to see these beautiful creatures suffer. Unfortunately, we CANNOT rescue our way out of this. There are 650,000 stray dogs on the island and we do not have 650,000 homes lining up to adopt. We are a tiny organization that relies entirely on donations to fund our efforts. #OperationSato is our systemic, efficient, HUMANE solution to the overpopulation crisis, and these are the kinds of situations we target for maximum impact.
Each of these dogs will receive $650+ worth of veterinary services over the coming weeks as we work through the entire pack. They’ll be sterilized, vaccinated, and administered preventatives to halt their vulnerability to endless pregnancies and the transmission of disease. We are so proud to get to do this work day in and day out, helping communities in Puerto Rico fight for these satos so they don’t have to 💪 #SatoStrong #spayandneuter

Buenos dias #SatoStrong community ☀️ This morning our team is posted up at Bo. Guayabota in Yabucoa, handing out 50 vouchers for our #OperationSato program. Please stop by to register your dog for a spay/neuter/vaccination appointment at our clinic in Humacao. We will be here until 1 pm, offering a package of crucial veterinary services worth $650, free of charge! 🇵🇷 #spayandneuter

BEFORE & AFTER TNR ➡️ look at this incredible change!
When Mama Kani was brought to our TNR (trap, spay/neuter, & release) event through #OperationSato back in April, she was in pretty rough shape from endless pregnancies on the streets of Puerto Rico. As our patient, she received $650 worth of crucial veterinary services (including spay surgery, vaccinations, flea/tick preventatives, pain meds, and more) completely free of charge to the caretaker who brought her in. After healing, Mama Kani returned to the neighborhood she knows and loves, where she is cared for daily by feeding route volunteers who provide fresh food & water. Thanks to TNR, she has been removed from the overpopulation cycle, and will never again endure pregnancies on the street. She is also protected from communicable diseases and blood-borne illnesses. We think she looks much happier!!
We have been prioritizing the TNR side of our #OperationSato program this year because it is the single most impactful and humane option to systemically interrupt the cycle of suffering satos are vulnerable to. While many in the government would rather opt for mass euthanasia as a quick and easy solution to the 650,000 strays roaming the island, The Sato Project refuses to stand on that side of history. We chose long along which side we’ll be standing on: the humane side.
We will continue to spay/neuter and vaccinate as many satos as resources will allow for, always striving for maximum impact to keep the satos safe from pregnancy and disease. We cannot rescue our way out of this, but we can keep fighting day by day to reduce their suffering. We can keep fighting #SatoStrong.

SHE HAS 13 RESCUE SATOS 🙏
We love this interview with a happy “customer” of our #OperationSato program 🫶 In addition to TNR (trap, spay/neuter, release) services, we also offer crucial veterinary care to owned satos in Puerto Rico. Families who could not otherwise afford to sterilize, vaccinate, and microchip their beloved pets come to us for help, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to help them. Each patient of #OperationSato receives $650+ worth of medical services completely free of charge to their owners. Your donations help us fund the only humane solution to the stray dog overpopulation crisis: preventing the transmission of disease and the birth of unwanted litters.

Visiting community dogs we’ve treated at #OperationSato 🧡🥰
Mariel is just one of our #SatoStrong all stars who regularly visits local dogs to dispense water, food, treats, and preventative medications. The satos pictured here have all been treated as TNR cases (trap, spay/neuter, release). After receiving $650 in services from us at #OperationSato, which includes sterilization, vaccination, preventatives, and a special freeze brand, each dog is returned to the communities they know and love, newly protected from overbreeding and the transmission of disease.

Visiting DOROTI and BARTOLO, two sweet community dogs we treated at one of our #OperationSato TNR clinics in Humacao in April. Our trap/neuter/release initiatives gives street dogs the opportunity to live their lives independently (as many of them would prefer), but safe from overbreeding and the transmission of disease. If you look closely, you’ll spot “TNR 2025” on these satos from our freeze brands, which humanely identify the dogs to the neighborhood as healthy.
Look at these dedicated caretakers from our last #OperationSato TNR clinic, bringing the stray satos they feed daily in for free spay/neuter/vaccination services. Despite the heat, they came prepared to sit with the dogs and wait, keeping them cool under umbrellas and even strapping fans to their crates for fresh air flow. They also committed to monitoring the dogs for up to 72 hours following surgery to check for any complications. We’re honored to have these local heroes in our corner, fighting for the satos together.
Phase II of #MissionPossible20 is here, and it’s spay/neuter/vaccination 💪

#GOAT team making moves for our TNR clinic this weekend! 💪 We offer 250 vouchers for free spay/neuter/vaccination appointments each month through #OperationSato. Think we can’t complete 250 MORE appointments in just ONE weekend…?
Check back with us again on Monday 😉
Currently our entire schedule is FULL. This time tomorrow, we’ll be busy checking in hundreds of stray satos for $650 worth of crucial veterinary services each. Completely free of charge to their feeding route caretakers.
Spay/neuter and vaccination is the systemic HUMANE response to this overpopulation crisis. The Sato Project will side with humanity time and time again. Will you be with us in our corner? #SatoStrong 🥊
LIKE CHRISTMAS IN SPRING 🎄🌺
Hundreds of items from our #OperationSato Amazon wishlist have started rolling in and we could not be more grateful and excited 😍 Sutures, drapes, gloves, surgery packs, needles, bandages….you name it, we’re gonna need it. A lot of it. Our next #OperationSato clinic - focusing solely on TNR (trap, spay/neuter, release) dogs - is coming up in just a few weeks, and our staff will be spending that time taking inventory and getting everything assembled. Over the course of that one weekend, we hope to sterilize and vaccinate a few hundred satos.

Piraña, Peki, and Blue are three satos YOU helped spay/neuter/vaccinate through our #OperationSato program. They belong to the kind gentleman we’ve been helping in Las Piedras recently - just 3 of his 23 dogs. And these satos are incredibly lucky; not only did they receive free medical treatment, they’re safe and well cared for under his roof. 650,000 satos like them are not as lucky, currently running loose on the island of Puerto Rico, exposed to the elements, starvation, and humans with bad intentions. It just goes to show the staggering nature of the issue and how much work we have ahead of us.
