Acting flashback. One of my favourite roles to play was as Joe Orton in “Ortonesque” (now renamed “Mr and Mrs Orton”) in it’s short tour.
It’s a role I’d love to reprise one day!

It is 57 years today since Joe Orton died, bludgeoned to death with a hammer in his bed by his partner Kenneth Halliwell who went on to take an overdose.
A year ago I was playing him on the stage…

Fifty six years ago today on 9th August 1967 Kenneth Halliwell took a hammer and bludgeoned Joe Orton to death as he lay sleeping before taking his own life. He left a cryptic note "If you read his diary all will be explained - especially the last part".
